SC
REL delegates to the Texas
Association of Student Councils
state convention in Austin,
March 31 through April 3, con-
tinue to prepare for the cam-
paign of REL for state presi-
dent.
REL will be running for the
top suite office against student
councils fr,om Big Spring,
Amarillo, Corpus Christi Ray
and Victoria.
Delegates have been meeting
weekly at various delegates’
houses to discuss campaign
strategy and plans.
Hamilton Beazley, former
REL teacher, is assisting the
delegates in their plans along
with Student Senate sponsor,
Nick Athas.
Beazley addressed the
Senate at their last meeting,
Feb. 1*. He encouraged sena-
tors to take an active part in the
preparations for the campaign.
If REL is elected state
president, the school will rap- prepared
resent 38,000 students on stu-
dent councils all over Texas.
Why should REL try to win?
The person who is named as
state president will receive a
31,000 scholarship for college,
go to Washington, D. C. and
meet the President of the U.S.
and work one week with his
state senators. For REL stu
dents, winning would be an
honor because REL would be
"Number One” as far as stu-
dent councils go
One person does not run for
TASC president; the support of
the entire school is needed. The
convention delegates cannot do
the job alone.
How can the Senate and REL
students get involved? Stu-
dents can support money-mak-
ing projects sponsored for the
purpose of raising money for
the campaign.
Persons will be needed to
make buttons, ribbons and oth-
er paraphernalia to be handed
out at the convention.
What is the REL campaign
strategy? The REL Gander
will be the symbol for the cam
paign and it must be seen ev-
erywhere at the convention.
The campaign slogan will be,
"I’m on the LEEdership
team!" with some variations
perhaps. Buttons and ribbons,
newspaper and brochure
stating the platform will be
Signs are needed for the
demonstration in the political
rally and decorations are need
ed for the soft drink party at
the hotel suite.
To win, work is needed!
