Most members of the Edcouch -
Elsa school faculty took advan-
tage of the long Christmas and
New Year holidays to visit rela-
tives in other parts of the state.

during the holidays:
Nurse McCaleb entertained vis-
itors from South Carolina during
the holidays.
Ben Garcia spent the holidays
in San Benito.
Mrs. Bonham visited, along
with her family in Tyler.
Mrs. Maye Bailey spent Christ-
mas in Fort Worth.
Mrs. Ada Cross’ son and fami-
ly spent the holidays with her.
Mr .and Mrs. E. L. Bigby visit-
ed in Arkansas.
Mrs. Icia Jennings spent the
holidays at home.
Miss Saima Rissanen spent
the holidays in Harlingen with
her sister.
Mr. Box underwent a tonsilec-
tomy during the holidays.
Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Antonetz
spent Christmas in Fort Worth.
Mr. and Mrs. George Potts
visited in Chillicothe, Texas dur-
ing the holidays.
Mrs. Anna Hunt spent the
holidays in Terrel and with her
eon and family in Arlington.
Mrs. C. O. Foerster and family
spent the holidays at home where
her sons William and Charles
from Texas University were visi-
tors.
Mrs. Hunnicutt and husband
Jack were in Sherman and Cle-
burne for the holidays to visit
their parents.
Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Smith and
daughter visited in El Dorado
during Christmas.
Mrs. Darrell Cummings had
her family together in Edcouch.
Mr. and Mrs. M. A. McPeters
Visited part time in Mt. Vernon,
and part time elsewhere. Mr. Mc-
Peters reports no venison from
last week on his trip to Fred-
ericksburg.
Mrs. Verona Jones spent the
holidays in Tuscon, Ariz.
Miss Dora Soto spent the holi-
days at her home in Edinburg.
Miss Paula Luhn visited her
home in Sealy during the holi-
day vacation.
Mrs. Elizabeth Morris visited
her daughters in Fort Worth.
Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Bobo visited
in Katy and Dallas during the
holidays.
Mrs. Payne visited her home
in Sulphur Springs.
Miss Ehman spent the holi-
days with her parents in Waco.
Mr. Gibson visited in Groes-
beck with his parents.
Miss Bess Ennes divided her
holiday vacation with her sister
in New Braunfels and her home
in Weslaco.
Mrs. Zube spent the holidays
at her home in Rosenthal, Texas.
Mrs. Lena Jones visited with
her brother and his family in
Daingerfield.
Mrs. Margaret Deupree spent
the holidays with her mother in
Paris, Texas.
Mrs. Stewart had her brother
and his family from Austin for
the holidays, along with a niece
from College Station.
Mrs. Grace Beck had her
daughter Gretchen and family
from Nebraska with her for the
holidays, and also Gretchen’s
mother-in-law, Mrs. Sorenson. A
brother-inlaw, and one of Mrs.
Beck’s cousins will also be on

Accident Victim
Amos Coonrod died Dec. 26 of
injuries received in a traffic ac-
cident Thursday in Weslaco.
Funeral services were held at
3 p.m. Dec. 27 at the Weldon
Martin Mortuary in Weslaco and
the body was shipped to Bonham
for burial.
Mrs. Albert Murden, Elsa, is a
cousin of the deceased.
Other relatives include his
father and three brothers, -all of
Bonham.
Richard Williams of Laredo,
arrived in Elsa on Friday to join
his wife and son, Richard Jr.,
in spending the holidays with
their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Coy
Williams and family in Elsa,
and Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Jarrett,
Sr. and C. H. Jarett Jr. of Edcouch.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Johnston
and children, Timothy and Fonda
Lu, left by train from Harlingen,
Wednesday, for Rochester, Minn,
to visit Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bremer
and family, former residents of
Elsa.

Mr. and Mrs. Donley Thomp-
son and family from White Sands
Proving Grounds, New Mexico,
and Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Troft and

guests over the holidays at the
home of Mr. and I ri"s. G. A. Will-
ford of Edcouch. Mrs. Thompson
and Mrs. Troft are daughters of
the Willfords. The D. C. Murehead
family of Eastern Star Home in
Arlington, spent Christmas day
with relatives. The group were
guests Monday at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Cooper of
LaVilla.
The Methodist Church had
their Christmas musical program
Sunday night, Dec. 18. Mr. and
Mrs. Walter Dyer and sons, Mike
and Bill, sang several musical
numbers.

and 2 sons from Oak Ridge, Tenn.
are visiting the formers’ parents,
Mr. and Mrs. F. P. Archer, of
Edcouch and other relatives in
the Valley over the Christmas
holidays.

Sgt. and Mrs. Douglas Carlson
and daughter, Linda, from Ocean
Side, Calif., are visiting his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vern Carl-
son of Edinburg, and relatives
in the Delta area. Sgt. Carlson,
who formerly lived in Elsa, is
now in the Navy.

Mrs. Marie C a r r u t h and 2
children, Pat and GG, of Elsa
left Wednesday to spend the holi-
days with Mrs. Carruth’s parents,
Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Landers of
McLean, Texas. Mr. and Mrs.
Landers will celebrate their 50th
wedding anniversary the latter
part of the month and about 38
relatives plan to attend the cele-
bration.

CLOSE CALL—When the driver of this large cement transport truck applied his brakes at the
stop light in Elsa, the tractor brakes held before those on the trailer. The vehicle jackknifed into
the driveway of the Weaver Service Station, shearing off one gasoline pump, breaking a water
line and a pipe which held air and water hose. The gas pump was ignited by the impact, but Sta-
tion Owner-Coy-Weaver quickly put out the blaze with a fire extinguisher. The truck came to a
halt right against the plate glass front of the office, but no damage was done to the building it-
self. Weaver, who has been at that location some 24 years, said he had never had a mishap like
that before. He estimated damage at $600. The truck was operated by Materials Transportation
Co. of Harlingen.

Highway Patrol
Extends Limit
W. J. Elliott, chief of the Texas
Highway Patrol, today announced
a one week’s extension in the
deadline date for filing applica-
tions for appointment to. the
State Patrol.
Elliott said that applications
will be received which are post-
marked not later than Sunday
midnight. January 8, 1956. Orig-
inal filing date was set for Janu-
ary 1st. The Patrol Chief said
that the additional time is beins?
granted because of the advent
of the Christmas holidays and
he wanted to give every eligible
young Texan a full opportunity
to apply for the highway patrol
positions.
Young men between the ages
of 21 and 35, inclusive; with a
high school education and of
good moral character and physi-
cal fitness who are not less than
5 ft. 8 inches in height and whose
