Assistance deadline nears for low-income Texans
STAFF REPORTS-
sunnews@baytownsun.com
The 83rd legislature took
major steps to provide ad-
ditional relief for low in-
come Texans who current-
ly qualify for the LITE-UP
Program administered by
the Public Utility Commis-
sion.
Beginning Sept. 1, the
program will begin assist-
ing customers with electric
bills offering a discount
up to 82 percent, a major
change from the 16.5 per-
cent assistance program
currently in place.
The LITE-UP Texas pro-
gram is designed to help
qualified low-income in-
dividuals living in an area
where they can choose their
service provider, thereby
reducing the monthly cost
of electric service partici-
pants will pay out of pock-
et.
In addition to giving the
discount in September, the
82 percent will be applica-
ble for May, June, July and
August 2014 assistance
months. “I am pleased that
we are able to help needy
Texans with their electric-
ity bills during the peak
summer months,” State
Rep. Mary Ann Perez said.
An electric customer is
qualified if the customer is
currently receiving Medic-
aid and SNAP.
If you are not in one of
the qualified programs list-
ed, you can still qualify in
the program if your house-
hold income is at or below
125 percent of the federal
poverty guidelines.
It is important to note
that the information on the
electric bill must match
the information the par-
ticipants provide on the
self-enrolled application.
An individual that
self-enrolls will need to
continue to self-enroll at
every eligibility period.
Deadline for registering is
Aug. 10.
Completed and signed
applications can either be
faxed to 1-877-215-8018
(toll free fax) or emailed to
I iteuptexassupport@sol i x-
inc.com.

BIBLE VERSE
What do mortals get from
all the toil and strain with
which they toil under the
sun? For all their days are
full of pain, and their work
is a vexation; even at night
their minds do not rest.
This also is vanity.
