tlarj Children are not exempted or
permitted a half ra'e of fare under
the new law
In line with this question Is
another closely related to it and this
is whether the law compelling the
street railway companies In cities)
of over 20.000 Inhabitants to sell |
school children tickets at one-half ι
the usual rale of fare Is Invalidated
by the anti-free pass law and if half
rates may be granted by the street
railway companies only upon the ap-
proval of the railway companies.
Only a few days ago the manager
of the street railway at San Antonio
when ashed to carry free to a subur-
ban park some children who were
being given an outing by a charit-
able organization declared that the
company would be glad to do so be-
fore July 12. but after the law be-
came effective the company would)
I be prohibited from rendering such 1
service. Not Ion* since the Austin |
electric street railway carried to \
Hvde PnrK a lot of poor children to 1
whom the Salvation Army gave a I
picnic; under the construction plac-
ed on the law this will be forbidden j
in the future but with the approval j
Î1 of the railroad commission a special
rate may be given. (
