The precinot convention of repub-
licans held in the court room of
Justice of the Peace E. P. Anderaon
last Saturday afternoon waa marked
by a general spirit of harmony.
There wave only a few of the faith-
fol followers of Teddy the stren-
uous present but the proceedings
were conducted with dispatch and
the utmost good will prevailed.
The convention was permanently
organised by the election of Dr. T.
W. Florer chairman and John Beaty
secretary.
The following delegates were nam-
ed to represent the Waxahachie pre-
cinct in the conuty convention to be
held in this city next Saturday: K.
P. Reymuller John Beaty. Dr. T.
W. Fiorer W. K. Stewart Κ. H.
Griffin Ben 8ims R. B. Roundtree
and C. 8. Diggs the last three being
colored.
After the selection of delegates
Postmaster John Beaty read the fol-
lowing resolution which was rnan-
imously adopted:
"Resolved That we the republi-
cans of precinct No. 1 of Ellis coun-
ty in convention assembled declare
ourselves in favor of the nomina-
tion of Théodore Roosevelt to suc-
ceed himself in tMe great office he
now holds and honors. His splen-
did audacity is in line with ourcoun-

sadly we bemoan the passing off of
that other great exponent of Amer-
ican manhood Marcus A. Hanna.
The country lias lost one of its
greatest statesmen the masses a
loyal friend the classes a co-worker
and the republicans one of their j
greatest party leaders. We deplore
his untimely death as a public mis-
fortune.
"Most heartily do we endorse the
nomination and election of Cecil A.
Lyon as national committeeman
believing that his administration
as state chairman has always been
for the best interests of the republi-
can party and we believe that if
elected he will be an honest and
faitiiful representative of'the inter-
ests of the party in Texas."

Jewels candy flowers man —that
is the order of a woman's preferen-
ces. Jewels form a mag-net of migh-
ty power to the average woman.
Even that greatest of all jewels
health is often ruined in the stren-
uous effort to make or save ttie mon-
ey to purchase them. If a woman
will risk her health to g'et a coveted
?em then let her fortify herself
against the insiduoue consequences
of coughs colds and bronchial affec-
tions by the regular use of Dr. Bos-
r-hee's German Syrup. It will ar-
rest consumption promptly in its
-•ariy stages and heal the affected
lungs and bronchial tubes and drive
the dread disease from the system.
It is not a cure-all hut it is a cer-
tain cure for cough» colds and all
bronchial troubles. You can get

Farm life is all right. Of all the
pursuits it is perhaps the moat de-
sirable fromevery standpoint. it cer-
tainly is the moat independent life a
man can lead especially does it offer
inducements to the poor man aod
the man in moderate circumstances
which cannot be found in life in the
cities. Why men women and chil-
dren will wear their lives oat toiling
tolling without cessation and swel-
tering in the closely settled towns
and cities when the country is con-
stantly inviting them to leave their
poverty stricken environments for a
life of comparative independence in
more than 1 can account for. There
are millions of people starving their
bodies their minds and their very
souls In the cities who could with
but half the effort now made to exist
soon acquire comfortable homes in
the country. Hut for some reason
they remain year after year held by
the allurements of city life always
in direst poverty and never kuowlng
what another day will bring forth.
They ntay until premature death
comes to their relief and thev are
laid away in paupers" graves
• *
There is comparatively little suf-
fering for t he necessities of life in
the country. Even if a poor man is
is unfortunate in sickness or in
tosses by fire or other disasters his 1
more prosperous neighbors are un- :
Lis.ially <|aick to come to his relief
if he is really a deserving man. The I
soil however poor will if properly!
billed yield revenue sufficient to
inpport a family and to give the
audiord his rent. There is no real
