A committee to investigate and
make plans for a Valley goodwill
tour to Monterrey, Mexico, sometime
in December, was appointed at a
meeting of the Valley Chamber of
Commerce Secretaries Tuesday of
this week.
Mercedes attending the meeting
of the Lower Rio Grande Valley
Bankers Association at Reynosa,
Mexico, Friday night were Mr. and
Mrs.N. P. Barton, Mr. and Mrs.
James Howze, Mr. and Mr®. Floyd
Langford, Hidalgo County Bank,
and Jack Trollinger, Robert Miller,
and Oscar Dube, First National
Bank.
Mrs. H. E. Sugg, secretary of the
Retail Merchants Association, and
Mrs. J. L. Johnson, assistant in the
local office, will leave Sunday for
San Antonio where they will attend
a Retail Credit Bureau School of
Instruction.
A total of 358 cars of citrus fruit
has left the Valley since the opening
of the season October 1. Mercedes
Garage i® being rushed to comple-
tion. O. J. Schaeffer and John
, Briscoe, owners of the Mercedes
Garage, have leased the new Texaco
Filling Station next to their garage
and will operate both places.
T. P. McQueen, local fancier and
breeder of homing pigeons, addressed
the “M” Club at their meeting Wed-
nesday and very generously offered
to furnish pigeons to the Pep Squad
to be used in a novelty stunt during
football games. McQueen’s plans
for using the birds was to attach gay
' balloons to their legs and at the end
of the first half release the pigeons.

A leave of absence for ten days
has been granted the Rev. Chauncey
Acrey, minister of the First Pres-
byterian Church of this city, to de-
liver a series of lectures in the
First Presbyterian Church of Beau-
mont, Texas October 23-31.
The lectureship is being sponsored
by all Presbyterian churches visita-
tion in Beaumont as a part of a
program of Preaching and Evange-
lism to be launched in November.
The Mercedes minister will deliver
twelve fifty minute lecture® on
evangelistic methods and motive.
A visiting minister will occupy the
pulpit here October 2 8th for the
morning service only during Ml.
Acrey’s absence. Rev. Acrey will
preach in two of the Beaumont pul-
pits Sunday October 2 8th and will
fill civic club speaking engagements
during the week’s stay in the north-
east Texas metropolis.

Court House in Edinburg, Texas.
Said plaintiff’s petition was filed
on the 8th day of October, 1945.
The file number of said suit being
No. B-14726.
The names of the parties in said
suit are:
Lala Hallock Lee as Plaintiff, and
Paul Dwight Lee as Defendant.
The nature of said suit being sub-
stantially as follows, to wit;
Suit for dissolution of marriage re-
lationship and an absolute divorce
for plaintiff from Defendant. Plain-
tiff being a resident of Hidalgo Coun-
ty, Texas, and the residence of De-
fendant being unknown. Plaintiff
and Defendant were legally married
June 3, 1944 in Hidalgo County,
Texas. Defendant withbut lawful ex-
cuse has been guilty of excessive
cruel treatment and outrages to and
towards this plaintiff which makes
their fruther living together as hus-
band and wife insupportable, more
particularly detailed in Plaintiff’s
petition heretofore filed herein. De-
fendant has a violent and ungoverna-
ble temper and without cause is
jealou® of Plaintiff and during their
marriage made accusations of vari-
ous and sundry nature against Plain-
tiff and Plaintiff’s family, treating
her with utter disrespect and on May
2, 1945, withdrew all of the joint
bank account of Plaintiff and De-
fendant and left the country without
advising Plaintiff where he was go-
ing and has since failed to support
Plaintiff or their minor child. Plain-
tiff and Defendant haye no commun-
ity property and Plaintiff prays that
absolute divorce be granted her be-
cause of Defendant’s fault and that
she be awarded the care, custody,
control and maintenance of their
minor son, Paul Dwight Lee, Jr.,
such other and further relief, general
or special, as in law or in equity
Plaintiff may show herself entitled.
Issued this the 10th day of Oct-
ober, 1945.
