years, died at 5:20 a. ifi. todky at
the home of his daughter, Mrs
Alice McGarrlty, on Belle Plain.
Funeral services will be held
Sunday at 3 p. m. at First Bap-
tist Church, Dr. Hairy Lee Spen-
cer officiating, and assisted by
Rev. A. J. Pkte. Burial will be In
Greenleaf cemetery, with Lon-
don and Burton Funeral Home
in charge of arrangements.
Dr. Watson was born April 13,
1855, at Hot Springs, Ark., the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Wat-
son.
He came to Texas In 1874, and
hi 1875 was married. He and his
wife' came to Brown county
shortly afterward and settled In
the Democrat community, which
later became a part of Mills
county.
Dr. Watson and his wife were
both converted four years later
at the Mt. Joy Baptist Church,
now known as Trigger Mountain,
In Mills county. He preached his
first (sermon in 1879, the begin-
ning of 65 years of ministry in
this section.
He was ordained In 1882, ac-
cepting the pastorate of two
churches, North Bennett and
Williams Ranch. Since that time,
he has helped In the organiza-
tion of -approximately 20
churches.
His career also Included. four
years as a state legislator, from
1912 to 1916, when he represent-
ed the Mills-Hamilton district.
For several years he also served
as chaplain of the State Prison

as the speaker for the Baptist
Hour next Sunday morning, Jan-
uary 28.
Major Taggart was Chaplain
before Pearl Harbor, and has
ministered to military men In
training camps, encouraged and
strengthened them as they en-
tered fierce combat, held the
hands of many as they died, and
burled the bodies of some In |
