NOW KEMPER KNOWS IT, TOO!
HE WAS A REAL KANGAROO
“Boy, am I glad to be home, for
a while anyway.”
These were the words of Bill
Bowden, expressing the typical
words of typical college boy’s feel-
ings about “home for the Christmas
week.”
Bill, who is taking a pre-med
course at Kemper Military Aca-
demy, was on the honor roll for the
past three months at this school.
He also made an enviable record in
football, playing all but two min-
utes of the entire season. Original-
ly playing fullback, he switched to
end when the end was injured. He
was chosen 2nd string all-confer-
ence end. Currently he’s wearing a
black and gold sweater with a huge
“K”.
While here, Bill appeared^ on
Station KORC. He gave a 15-min-
ute talk on “Save A Life, It Might
Be Your Own,” a Texas Safety
slogan. He reminded listeners that
safety affects every human being.
“Safety is of primary importance
in every life. This is a good time
to start driving safely. Tragedy
strikes, especially during the holi-
days. The contrast of joy and grief
is so evident.” Bill spoke on Dec-
ember 23.
During his high school years Bill
played left guard and was nick-
named Speedy. In the track season
he was first around the park most
frequently. This paid off in several
matches. The merchants presented

Here we are back at school again
and it surely is hard to get back on
the beam.
Well, how did you folks like
the Exe’s game? I think it is
the general opinion that the
game was a success. Coach
Ranspot said that he missed
going hunting, but says that it
was well worth it to beat our
old rivals, Mineral Wells.
It was the first time to beat Min-
eral Wells for some of the boys,
and here’s hoping that it won’t be
long ’till the same thing happens
again.
In the bowl games it seems
all the Texas teams won their
tilts except Texas Mines, who
lost in the Sun Bowl.
Our attention again must turn to
basketball. Our boys have been
working out a few times during
the holidays and are ready to go
again this week. To start the sche-
dule off it looks like this:
Jan. 7—Friday: Weatherford vs.
Breckenridge, here.
Jan. 11—Tuesday: Weatherford
vs. Mineral Wells, here.
Jan. 14—Friday: Weatherford
vs. Brownwood, here.
Jan. 21—Friday: Weatherford
vs. Stephenville, there.
Jan. 25—Tuesday: Weatherford
vs. Cisco, there.
Jan. 28—Friday: Weatherford

undecided as to whether they
will attend Baylor or not.
