The Junior Girl Scout

for Girl Scout Week at their

place to Debbie Kiesehnick,

placed in the windows of the
businesses on Texas Street,
The girls made plans to
attend services on Sunday,

CITRUS TRAILER
PARK ACTIVITIES
The Ladies Group of the
Citrus Trailer Park met at
the hall Feb, 25 for a busi-
ness and social meeting.
Mrs. Katherine Roberts
was in charge of the meet-
ing. The usual business was
conducted and members
made arrangements for an-
other Pot Luck Supper to
be held.
As a special project at
the meeting members made
bandages for the Red Cross.
At the close of the meet-
ing, refreshments of coffee
and cookies were served by
the hostesses, Mrs, Ethel
Moorhead and Mrs. Polar to

Solemnize Vows n Ceremony
Our Lady of Mercy Ca-
tholic Church of Mercedes
was the setting for a cere-
mony which united a holy
matrimony Miss Marcela
Leonor Solis and Henry Gar-
cia, both of Mercedes. The
vows were repeated at 7:30
a.m. on Feb. 23, with Father
Edward Kennedy, O.M.I., of-
ficiating.
The bride is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Juan Solis
of Mercedes and the bride-
groom is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Jesus Garcia, also of
Mercedes.
The bride, given in mar-
riage by her father, chose
to wear a gown of pearl
peau de sole. The straight
skirt featured a gown of
skirt featured re - embroi-
dered lack medallions appli-
qued with seen pearls. At-
tached to the waist in back
with a bow was a sweeping
chapel train. T he bodice fea-
tured a rounded neckline and
three - quarter length
sleeves. The bodice was ap-
pliqued with the same me-
dallion lace used in the skirt.
The bride's chapel length
veil of illusion was held in
place with a crown of seed
pearls. White kid gloves
completed her ensemble. She
carried a bouquet consisting
of.a white orchid surrounded
by white carnations and white
stock, with white satin rib-
bon streamers.
Miss Margaret Solis, the
bride's sister was maid of
honor. The junior brides-
maid was little Miss Diana
Salinas, The maid of honor
wore a red velvet sheath
dress with long tapered
sleeves. Her red velvet hat
was shaped into a rose and
was surrounded with white
fur. She completed her en-
semble with red satin shoes
and carried a white fur muff.
The junior bridesmaid
wore a dress of red velvet.
The bodice featured a peter
pan collar and three - quar-
ter length sleeves. Her ac-
cessories were identical to
the maid of honor's
First witnesses were Mr.
and Mrs. Rigoberto Salinas,
Miss Livia Garcia, sister of
the bridgegroom, was maid
of bouquet.
Mrs. Salinas and Miss
Garcia wore red velvet two
piece suits. Their hats were
fur trimmed and their shoes
were dyed to match satin.
Following the ceremony,
a reception was held at the
Mercedes Civic Center.
White floral baskets adorned
the doorway. In the receiving
line were the bride, the
bridegroom and the parents
of the couple.
The serving table was cov-
ered with a red taffeta cloth
and had an overskirt of white
net.
" The traditional white wed-
ding cake was in three tiers.
White sugar roses and a
minature bridal couple ad-
orned the top tier.
Those assisting at the re-
ception were Miss Linda
Hinojosa, serving the cake;
Mrs. Jesus Sepulveda of
Weslaco, serving the punch;
and Miss Elma- Ramirez of
Elsa, serving the coffee.
Others assisting at the re-
ception- were Mrs. Eusehio
Saenz, aunt of the bride; Mrs.
Ruben Cantu; Mrs, Camilo
Esteves; Miss Roselinda
Johnston and Miss Margaret
Diaz.
Presiding at the guest book
were Misses Anna Maria and
Rose Nelda Solis.
Following the wedding, the
couple flew to Miami, Fla.
for their wedding trip. For
the trip, the bride chose a
three - piece blue suit. She
completed her ensemble with
blue accessorie-s and an or-
chid corsage.
Among the out - of - town
guests were Mr. and Mrs.
Harold Crossett of McAllen,
Mr. and Mrs. Albino Diaz
of Monterrey, Mex., Miss
Roselinda Johnston of Aus-
tin, Mr. and Mrs. Edward
Leo of Edinburg and Mrs.
Ruben Larios of Corpus
Christi.
The bride is a 1963 grad-
uate of Mercedes High
School, While at school she
was elected Homecoming
Queen in 1963, Most Popu-
lar Girl in 1963 and was a
senior class officer.
The bridegroom is a grad-
uate of Mercedes High School
and Pan American College
at Edinburg. He recently

CINDY JONES
THESE TWO BEAUTIES will represent Mercedes In the annual Livestock Show Cover
Girl Revue Saturday night, March 14. This is the first official event of the 1964 RGV
Livestock Show. Cindy Jones is the FFA nominee and Rosa Mae Wheeler the 4-H can-
didate. Cindy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn F. Jones, is head cheerleader,
FFA sweetheart, vice president of the junior class, and also is a member of the National
Honor Society, Y-Teens and Student Council. Rosa Mae is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
George A. Wheeler, belongs to Y-Teens, Thespians, choir, band and Cotillion Club.
She has been a twirler for three years.
SORORITY TO HEAR
ART PROFESSOR
The Gamma Omega of
chapter of Beta Sigma Phi
held a regular meeting at the
home of Mrs. Henry Laud-
erdale on Thursday.
Announcement was made
that the next meeting of the
sorority to be held at the
home of Mrs. Milton Hild will
feature a special guest.
Guest will be Dr. Ben Bailey
of the Texas A&I College at
the Kingsville department of
art. He will present paint-
ings for viewing by the mem-
bers while he presents a pro-
gram on art. This meeting
will be held on March 12.
During the business ses-
sion, the executive com-
mittee announced that letters
with tickets to the Confed-
erate Air Show had been sent
to other sororities in the
Valley in an effort to pro-
mote the sale of tickets for
the show.
Plans were made for the
Founders Day dinner which
Gamma Omega will sponsor
on April 3U.
During the meeting a pro-
gram “Music Into Drama”
was presented by eight mem-
bers of the sorority who gave
a performance of “The King
and I.”

Edie Lieck Honored
At Birthday Party
Little Miss Edie Lieck
was honored on the occasion
of her fifth birthday with a
party given in her honor by
her mother, Mrs. Robert
Lieck on Feb. 26.
Decorations in the room
consisted of colored bal-
loons. The table was covered
with a white cloth decorated
with pink ballerinas. A danc-
ing ballerina doll composed
the centerpiece. A serving
table was covered with a pink
cloth. Serving cups and
plates carried the ballerina
theme.
The square cake was also
decorated with minature
dancing ballerinas. A valen-
tine was centered on the cake
and was surrounded with pink
flowers and birthday can-
dles. Punch and ice cream
were served with the cake.
During the party, guests
played outdoor games.
Present at the party were
Mrs. O. C. Younger, of Ed-
couch, grandmother of the
honoree; Dawn and Merit
Gainley of Edcouch, cousins
of the honoree; Mish Swear-
engin of Weslaco, Linda
Greenwood, Chap Ross,
D’Wayne, Dean, David and
Dale Bearden, Elizabeth and
Clayton Lieck, sister and
brother of the honoree.
LUTHERANTEAM
WINS TOURNAMENT
The. Immanuel Lutheran
School Volleyball Team de-
feated, the Mt. Calvary Lu-
theran School of Raymond-
ville and the Good Shepherd
Lutheran School of McAllen
to win the annual Lutheran
School Volleyball Tourna-
ment on Friday.
The first round of the
tourney was held at the St.
Paul Lutheran School in Har-
lingen on Feb. 14. In this

A luncheon was held at the
Southwestern Bell Telephone
Company lounge on Feb. 20
to honor three of the tele-
phone office employees.
Recognized on the oc-
casion were Mrs. Velma
Bailey for her 30 years of
service and one year of per-
fect attendance; Mrs. Jewel
Harp for her 15 years of
service and two years of
perfect attendance; and Mrs.
Billie Williams for her 15
years of service.
Other recognized for their
perfect attendance were
Mrs. Nancy Lawrence,
two years, and Mrs. Ollie
Lee, one year.
Honorees were presented
with corsages and service
emblems from district traf-
fic manager, Ed Crossland.
Mrs. Bailey also received
a gift of luggage from her
fellow employees.
Hostesses for the luncheon
were Mrs. Ollie Lee, Mrs.
Beth Coffin, Mrs. Olive Al-
tenhoff and Mrs. Johnny On-
derdonk.
Approximately 40 in-
dividuals were present.

of McAllen were defeated by
the Mercedes team.
At the final round the tour-
nament, Mercedes and Ray-
mondville were undefeated.
During the two final rounds,
Mercedes won over theRay-
mondville team with scores
of 15—13 and 15-5.
Future events slated for
these schools are the Lu-
theran School Spelling Con-
test to be Held in Harlingen
on March 14 and the Lutheran
Track and Field Meet on May
9 in McAllen.
