Washington, D. G.—Since enactment
of the prohibition law the federal
courts have imposed fines aggregat-
ing more titan $42,000,000, and jaft
sentences totaling more than 22,500
years.
This was shown in figures made
public by the liquor law enforcement
Mmrnltm of

At the end of the fiscal year June 80,
1927, there had been 225^07 federal
convictions and 9,600 acquittals under
the prohibition act The records show
23 convictions to each acquittal since
the law went into effect and the
average for the past fiscal year was
33 convictions to each acquittal.
During the fiscal year which closed
June 30, 1927, 13,217 persons were
sentenced to jail or prison for ap
average of 139 days each. For crimi-
nal acts committed in violation of the
prohibition law, 26,778 persons were

Traffic Laws
Don’t forget the fact that the city
commission of Rocksprings is gsbp
to enforce the traffic laws within the
city limits beginning Deceynber I5t\
and it is expected that the local peo-
ple will comply with the law to be
an example for the out of town peo-
ple to follow while here. Mr. S. 8.
Stewart has been appointed traffic
marshall and he expects to give every-
body s fair chance but will expect a
uniform observance of this law.
The strict observance of the traf-
fic law here will seem foolish to many
people, but after s few moments of
reflection you can easily see that it
is. very necessary- Ju*t as surely as
it goes on as it is now a serious ac-
cident will result, and probably a loos
of life. We all have plenty time to
drive to the end Of the Mock to tufa
around and if we dost, some one
drivinig a car from a town that en-
forces this law, expecting you to com-
ply with the traffic law, will about rip
off a few fenders, etc. for us, and
will If- entirely justified in doing so.
