The first United States Naval
Air Station, the baa* was built on
the site oT the abandoned Navy
Yard st Pensacola in lt!4. Upon
completion of the "Annapolis of
the Air," all available aeronauti-
cal material, plants and pilots of
the Navy ware ordered to Pensa-
cola. On the data the first World
War was declared. Pensacola, still
the only Naval Air Station in the
country, numbered a total of 98
officer-aviators; and 169 enlisted
men. | •
