police radio care because the Emer
gency Squads ride to the scene In
heavy trucks loaded down with
tools of their craft enabling them
to cope with every type of exigency.
Whether it be a hydraulic Jack to
extricate a motorist from an over
turned car, a first aid kit to patch
up a youngster who fell off a truck
while hitch hiking, gas bombs and
gas masks to quell a riot, or acces-
sories that might be needed in any
one of a hundred different situa-
tions that may arise, the Emergen
cy Squad truck has them all.
«nTheM6 a]!e twenty 8<iuad trucks
on active duty and two in reserve.
In order to respond promptly to a
summons, the trucks are located at
strategic points thruout the city—
which explains their ability to get
to the scene of action so quickij.
The equipment which they use la
brought into action with equal
speed. In rendering first aid, for ex-
ample, one j of the latest contribu-
tions to science—the speed bandage
—is used. Every truck has a com
that is called In to cope with the
situation.
So skillful are members of this
squad that in the 96 cases involv-
ing children last year, where first
aid treatment was rendered by the
Emergency Service Division, not
one had fifi-ther cause for treat-
ment.
Members of this squad are among
the best schooled In the Police De-
partment. They attend a School for
Specialized Training where they are
taught the correct use of first aid
equipment And every member of
the Squad must pass an examlna-
tlon proving his ability to think
clearly and net quickly in an emei^
gency.
No details, no matter how email,
are overlooked when the Squad re-
sponds . j an emergency. Even a
camera Is carried and a member of
