mental to Texas The News was the
leading Influence to hurt Texas abroad
In 1890 U2 tiv ndierttslnir Iiocir and
those with him as cnemle of capital t
and investors Yet every law ins pro
trosed was enacted Itecently a num-
ber of Txas capitalists realized that
a grleous mistake had been made by
the News Geo Clark and other friends
of combined capital They became con-
vinced that the condemned laws were
Kood and could be used to draw In-
vestor 1 Ihe state Hence they or-
ganized un eastern trip with Governor
Hogg as guest Most Of the men who
went on the tour with hltn were op-
posed to him In 1890 ftz and the laws he
advocated After his speeches they saw
multi millionaires nt Itoston Philadel-
phia Piovldence and elsewhere turn
over chairs In their haste to congratu-
late Governor Hogg and assuro him
that Texas had been misrepresented
and lied about
Can It be that the News regards It-
self In the light of a criminal nearlng
conMctlon The News must see that
the trip alluded to has vastly Increased
Hoggs Influence andhas done much
to bring unity aaong commercial pro-
ducing and laboring people of Texas
as against populism Would thli be a
calamity to the News Is It money In
the NewH pocket to keep corporation

they hae arch enemies In Hogg and
the people who endorse him Does the
News see slipping through Us fingers
arlos and sundry fat political con-
tracts which wiry and flexible corpora-
tion politicians so called attornes
have heretofore mnneuered for them
These and other questions suggest
themselves One thing H evident the
News has for noma mysterious reason
resumed Its hopeless task of killing off
