Truck Hurtles
Into Town At 40 HPH
KTTTANNING, Pa. -UP- Au-
thorities estimated damages Fri-
day at between *15.000 and *20,000
in a runaway truck accident in
which a rig loaded wito 29,000
pounds of steel forgings struck 11
other vehicles, injuring three per-
sons.
The driver, Charles Defrain, Wil-
liamsport, Pa., said his brakes
failed about halfway down a long
hill east of here Thursday. The
heavy truck hurtled into the com-
munity at SO miles an hour, side-
swiping a row of parked cars and
one moving vehicle before coming
to rest against two more parked
ears and bursting into flames.

American Airlift
To Tampico Ends

SAN ANTONIO -UP- The
American airlift which flew more
than one million pounds of food
and supplies into flood-stricken
Tampico, Mexico, has ended.
Brooke Air Force Base an-
nounced Thursday that the last
four planes carrying 26,000 pounds
of food were on their way to the
coastal city which at one time
could count only 16 blocks above
water after two hurricanes.
Fourth Army Headquarters said
it had been notified by the Red
Gross that the airlift was no longer
needed.
