essay on “Why I Should Not
Tell a Lie’*. The contest
was sponsored by radio sta-
tion KRIO.
Barbara says that she
plans “to spend the money
on all kinds of junk during
the band trip”.

(juniors) are working to-
ward the possibility of at-
tending summer college
workshops. These two-week
instruction periods, which
are to be at various Texas
universities, include cours-
es in earth science, mathe-
matics, biology, etc., and
are designed to give the
participants an idea of what
will be expected in similar
college courses.

Javier Ayala and Juan Ber-

When she was graduated
from high school here three
years ago she said she in-
tended to be an airline stew-
ardess . . .
Miss Maria del Sagrario
Ramirez, daughter of Mrs.
Pilar Ramirez of Watson-
ville, Cal., has been award-
ed the silver wings of an
American Airlines steward-
ess and has now been as-
signed to flight duty out of
Dallas.
She received her wings as
a graduate in the third class
this year at the American
Airlines Stewardess Col-
lege, Fort Worth.
Miss Ramirez, who was
born in Tampico, Tamauli-
pas, Mexico, was graduated
from Mercedes high in 1966
and attended Texas A & I
University, Kingsville.
Prior to joining American
Airlines, she was employed
at the Watsonville Pajaro-
nian.
She is 5’ 7” tali with dark
brown hair and dark brown
eyes.
Miss Ramirez studied
more than 100 different sub-
jects during her six weeks*
training at American's Stew-
ardess College. Subjects
ranged from make-up and
grooming to in-flight food
service and theory of flight.
TIGER bandsmen, both
junior high and high school,
made a good showing at the
UIL Solo and Ensemble Con-

Arturo Sanchez Rodriguez,
20, whose parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Guadalupe Rodriguez,
and wife, Virginia, live on
Route 2, Mercedes, was as-
signed to the 1st Cavalry
Division (Airmobile) re-
cently in Vietnam. He is a
rifleman.
