Read Mark 14:60-72
And He (Peer) broke down and
wept.-Mark 14:72 (RSV)
This must have been the moment
of botterest heartbreak in Peter's
life—the pain of grief over the be-
trayal of love. The cock's crow
brought back his conscience. He had
sinned, but he quickly repented, as
is manifested by his bitter weep-
ing.
The changing of a sinful life begins
in repentance. It is the starting point.
Repentance makes way for God's
entry into a person’s life. Man's
extermity. awareness of his sinful
condition is God's first real oppor-
tunity Peter's tears had washed
away his pride, self-trust, self-suffi-
ciency. and self-regard. Only humil-
ity and shame were left. This made
puossible an utter dependence on
God, which is the beginning of son-
ship.
This story is told not to pillory
Peter as a coward. It points to the
grace of Chirst's forgiveness by
which Peter was finally restored and
given great responsibility in the
redemptive plan of Christ.
Prayer: O Lord, oor great Re-
deemer, quicken our conscience,
and make us aware of our sins.
Grant us true penitence. Bless us
with restoration, and commission
us to Thy service. In Thy name
we ask, and pray as Thou hast
taught us, "Our Father who art
in heaven .... Amen"
Thought for the Day: "I will de-
clare mine iniquity: I will lie sorry
for my sin."

THE CARE OF INDOOR PLANTS
Soil, water and air are among the
most important considerations when
growing plants indoors for long per-
iods of time.
The roots can't grow under improp-
er soil conditions and the leaves will
not develop properly if the atmos-
phere is poor.
Past research conducted at the
Texas Agricultural Experiment Sta-
tion shows that the best growing
medium for indoor plants is a mix-
ture of 50 per cent horticultural grade
perlite and 50 per cent coarse peat
moss by volume, to which the prop-
er nutrients have been added.
This mixture can be prepared for
home use by uniformly mixing one
and one half bushels of horticultur-
al grade perlite, one and one-half
bushels of peat moss and four ounc-
es of a complete all purpose rose
fertilizer.
Be sure that the mixture is thor-
oughly wet before potting or plant-
ing. When indoor plants are grown
in this mixture, watering once a
week and feeding once every three
months will be sufficient. To feed
the plants, apply the all purpose
fertilizer at a rate of one teaspoon
for each six inch pot or one-half
pound for each 100 square feet of
surface soil.
Indoor plants do best when an air
temperature of 60 to 70 degrees
Fahrenheit is maintained at night.
During the day, temperature can be
as high as 85 to 90 degrees without
serious problems arising. Light is
also an important factor to consider
! when growing indoor plants. How-
ever. the maintenance of minimum
light requirements for satisfactory
growth of indoor plants is not sis
exacting as is usually supposed.
The brighter the natural light dur-
ing the daylight hours, the shorter
the period of artificial light that will
be required. Also, the brighter the
artificial light provided, the shorter
the period of illumination required.
Artificial light should not be pro-
vided for longer than a total of 16
hours per day, because eight hours
of darkness must be provided dur-
j ing each 24 hour day period for
healthy growth. Also important in
maintaining good appearance on in-
door plants is the type of light used.
When only ''daylight” flourescent
Lght is used, the color of many plants
take on a cold and faded appear-
ance. These undesirable effects can
be overcome by the use of incan-
descent light often provided by the
use of spotlights of incandescent
tubes
