A farmer in Wilson county
Texas reports some rather remark-
able results of experiments in cot-
ton planting His purpose was to
ascertain the result of planting in
rows of different widths Most of
the cotton was planted with the
rows eight feet apart and he re-
ports that the cotton of this field
did not cease growing tho entire
year and made twice as much to
the acre as that planted usual
width Southern Mercury

A man who speaks derogatory of
a local paper no matter if that pa-
per is not up to the standard in
everything is an enemy to the
town in which he lives As a
general rule the success and com
pletness of a local paper is com-
mensurate with the patronage it
receives from the local merchants
and those merchants who give tho
least amount of patronage almost
always do the greater part of the
kicking A man who will secretly
stab a local enterprise is a hyena
from Hades
A few dead heads dead beats
and spongers find much fault with
the News They have no right to
do this Lot a man assist in sup-
porting a paper and then he can
find as much fault with it as he de-
sires but his views as to its man-
agement aro worthless as long as
he refuses to furnish any of the
motivo power by which it is to be
run This is not his fight but if
ho is not pleased with the course
of the paper and wantsto try his
hand in making ono more to his
notion wo can bo induced to step
down and out for a reasonable
comsideration

Wade H son of Dr D W and
Connie Fentress was born Dec
tbo 20th 1S70 and departed this
life from the family residence in
San Saba Toxas Dec the 27th
1888 The poet well said
Man is a tender transient flower
Then een in blooming dies
Wade was a good boy Ho was
kind and obliging to all a favorite
among his playmates beloved by
his teachers and loved and respect
ed by all who knew him His
mind was unusually bright and
gave promiso of many uoblo quali
ties This beautiful symmetrical
opening bud gave promise of a
noble useful manhood What
joy was he to his fond parents
They watched the development
with pride and thoughtful admira
tion But alas death with an icy
withering touch is laid upon his
devoted young form and he is lost
to our fond embraces
That once loved form now cold and dead
Each mournful thought employ
We weep our earthly comfort fled
And withered all our joys
It has been said that death
loves a shining mark and it may
be well that it is so Such frt >
ert prepared for eternity and
such can best call our mindu from
this to another world Their trans
planting from this world of sorrow
to the world of bliss is a gracious
blessing to them And they are
not lost to us We may join them
in their happy home and then re
joice with them forever May this
this great truth comfort the weep
ing friends and once more we will
say with Steele
Hope looks oeyond the hounds of time
When n hat we now deplore
Shall rise in fnll immortal prime
And bloom to fade no more

yet before tho case is decided

Stacy Harwood At tho Pres

Mr William H Stacy to Miss
Clara F Harwood EevHELaird
officiating
Willing and friendly hands had
devoted tho previous day to decor
ating the church and altar with
evergreens and flowers from green-
houses The chandeliers were
draped with beautiful festoons of
mistletoe aud ivy while the altar
and adjoining stands wore a bower
of flowers ferns evergreen and
rare plants arranged and draped
in exquisite taste
The entrance to the altar from
the main aisle of tho church was
barred by a white satin ribbon
which was presided over by two
beautiful little misses Edith Fly
and Katie Eandlo who unfasten-
ed the ribbons as the bridal party
approached the space in front of
the altar At about ten minutes
past nine oclock relatives of the
parties entered the church and took
their seats Tho ushers then fol-
lowed taking position at the right
and left of the altar The groom
entered accompanied by Mr T W
Gregory of Austin followed by
the bride and supported by her
father Mr Laird arose and in a
beautiful and impressive cere-
mony forged the golden chain that
binds them man and wife Miss
Clara always beautiful and sweet
was no less so on this occasion as
she stood arrayed in a beautiful
gray traveling suit by the side of
the dignified and manly looking
groom to whom her fortunes were
being linked
Immediately after tho ceremony
the biido and groom entered car-
riage in waiting and were driven
to the depot to take tho morning
train on a bridal tour
Miss Clara was ono of the beau-
tiful flowers that adorn Gonzales
society and none were more loved

and who will feel deeply her loss
and companionship yet all will
join the Inquirer in wishing her a
bright future and full fruition of

A local option road law is unjust
to no county or people Bonds to
improve roadways cannot bo issued
unless the people of a county want
