DR. DARRELL R. DUNHAM
It would be interesting to read
Dr. Darrell Dunham’s doctoral
dissertation. His subject was,
“Attitude of Student Teachers,
College Supercisors, and Super-
vising Teachers Toward Youth.”
It would be interesting to have
Dr. Dunham review the book
before some church or civic
group. There’s your program
readymade, boys.
“He and Mrs. Dunham live at
800 Westway in Denton with
their two sons. Dr. Dunham
noted that his older boy, Roger,
11, shares his enthusiasm for
the National League’s fourth-
place Cubs and plays on a local
Little League squad. The
younger boy, Gregg, 5, is not
old enough to be in favor of any
team, but his father has some
pretty definite ideas about the
probable favorite.”
WILLIAM A. BALDWIN
William Baldwin, son of
James D. Baldwin, who was
seriously injured in a Jeep ac-
cident in El Paso in June, is
doing all right. He was injured
in an unusual accident. He was
riding in a Jeep on a mountain
road when it caved in and he
rolled with the Jeep 200 feet
down the mountain side, crash-
ing into a giant boulder.
He is a TV engineer and was
enroute to the tower atop Mt.
Franklin.
Asked about William’s prog-
ress, his father said:
“William.has been discharged
from the hospital by one of the
two doctors who were treating
him. William’s right wrist is
still in a cast and his treatment
was being continued by the
other physician. William recent-
ly returned to work in another
department of the television
station, where he can work
while his wrist continues to
heal. His residence address is
3603 Idalia St., El Paso.”
He attended Denton-Hi and
North Texas State College.
He volunteered before Pearl
Harbor and served in the Army
several years. We recall that,
as a boy he and Travis Tittle
were always experimenting and
building radio sets, etc. His
bent for this kind of thing seems
to have paid off.
William’s brother, James D.
Baldwin, Jr., is a private secre-
tary with Ford Motor Co., in
Dallas.

JANET JOHNS
At the Southern Hotel with
her grandmother, Mrs. Ailsey
Martin, we saw Janet Johns, 15,
daughter of the former Ruth
Martin. Dr. M. L. Martin, well
know Denton specialist of seve-
ral years ago, was Ailsey’s hus-
band and Ruth’s father. One of
Denton’s noblemen.
They now live in Palo Alto,
California. Janet, a pretty red-
head, is here for the summer.
With her was Susanne Sparks
16, daughter of Dr. and Mrs.
Dade Sparks.
Later, Mrs. Ruth Martin
Crary arrived for a visit with
her mother. Janet will return
to California with her mother.
Ruth teaches in the Palo Alto
schools.

IT'S MAINLY NEGLIGENCE
In view of increased insurance
rates it is interesting to note
that:
More than 95 per cent of ve-
hicles involved in fatal accidents
on U.S. highways in 1957 were
in apparently good condition.
Bad driving conditions pre-
vailed in less than 15 per cent
of the fatal highway accidents
in the U.S. in 1957.
More than 21 per cent of 1957
U.S. highway deaths occurred
on Saturdays.
Week ends are the most
dangerous time to be on U.S.
highways. In 1957, more than
55 per cent of all fatalities oc-
curred o,n Fridays, Saturdays
and Sundays.
Nearly 27 per cent of U.S.
drivers involved in 1957 traffic
fatalities were under 25 years
of age.

MRS. ASHBURN IN BOSTON
Mrs. Andrew (Elizabeth)
Ashburn went with her son,
Davis Lowe and wife, Helen, to
Boston to visit her daughter
and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Nick England, of Waco. Nick is
in Harvard working on a Ph. D.
in Music, for the third year. His
wife is the former “Scottie”
Lowe of Denton.
They were also accompanied
by Helen’s mother, Mrs. Hef-
fington and daughter, Ann, of
Wichita Falls. They have re-
turned to Wichita Falls, but
Mrs. Ashburn will remain in
Boston through August. Nick
will get the coveted Ph. D. by
next spring, after which he will
return to nis teaching job at
Baylor University.
Dr. Ashburn has traveled
widely, but he is staying in Den-
ton this summer. He has taught
in TWU for a long time and
Mrs. Ashburn teaches in the
north ward school.
