Funeral services for Mrs.
Emma C. Cunningham, 87.
were conducted Sunday Dec-
ember 24, in the First Unit-
ed Methodist Church with the
Rev. Carl Israel, pastor, of-
ficiating. She died Saturday
morning. Burial was in the
Lewisville, Texas cemetery.
Pallbearers were Buddy
Ross III, Howard Roman,
Dan Morrison, Charles Gre-
enwood, Roger Jones and John
Reynolds, Honorary pall-
bearers were James Laud-
erdale, Floyd Langford, E.
Q. Farris, Dr. M. R. Lawler
and Steven Galloway.
Miss Cunningham was
born in Terrell, Texas and
had lived in Mercedes for the
past 20 years. She made her
home with a niece, Miss Alma
P. Whatley. She was a mem-
ber of the First United Meth-
odist Church, Wesleyan Ser-
vice Guild and the Associa-
tion of Retired Persons.
Stotler Mortuary was in
charge of local arrange-
ments.

Tuesday
Miss Ofelia Hernandez,
66, was buried Tuesday,
December 19, in the Catholic
Cemetery after funeral ser-
vices were conducted at
10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy
Church with the Rev. Matt-
hew Powers officiating. She
died Monday, December 18,
at Knapp Memorial Hospital
in Weslaco.
Born in Linares, Nuevo
Leon, Mexico, she resided
in Mercedes for 32 years and
made her home with a nephew
and niece, Mr. and Mrs. Ray
Hernandez.
Rosary services were
Monday evening at Garcia
and Trevino Funeral Home.
In addition to her nephew,
"he is survived by two bro-
thers, EsequielHernandez of
Parlier, California and Tib-
urcio Hernandez of Soledad,
California; one sister, Miss
Josefina Hernandez of Mex-
ico City and a niece, Ofelia
Hernandez of Mercedes.
Pallbearers were Martin
Hinojosa, Manuel Hernand-
ez, Israel Muniz, G. A,Mar-
tinez, Alejandro Estrada and
Ray Hernandez.
E.L. Goeser
dies at 80
A longtime resident of
Mercedes, Ernest Louis
Goeser, died Tuesday, Dec-
ember 19, at Valley Grande
Manor in Weslaco. Funeral
services were conducted
Friday at 2 p.m. in the Stot-
ler Chapel with the Rev. Al-
bert Stanley of the First
Christian Church officiating.
Burial was in the Ebony
Grove Cemetery.
Born in Burlington, Iowa,
he was 80 years of age.
He is survived by two sons,
George W. Goeser of Wes-
laco and John A. Goeser of
Corpus Christi; three sis-
ters and seven grandchild-
ren.
Pallbearers were George
Goeser II, Martin Goeser,
John D. Goeser, Donald L.
Goeser, Doral Harrison and
Earl Ervin.
Stotler Mortuary was in
charge of arrangements.
Tourist Club to
elect officers
Members of Mercedes
Tourist Club and other win-
ter visitors interested in
joining the local club will
meet Wednesday, .January 3
7 p.m. at the Colony Room,
334 South Texas. New offic-
ers will be elected and in-
stalled.
Meetings are every Wed-
nesday night at 7 p.m.
Supper is for
two churches
The Edcouch First United
Methodist and Presbyterian
Church of Elsa enjoyed a
covered dish supper at the
Fellowship Hall in Edcouch
December 17 when a large
crowd attended. Each table
was centered with a small
Christmas arrangement.
Following the supper all
assembled in the Sanctuary
for the Christmas program
given by the combined Sunday
School classes.
