Has Bible Study
Monday Afternoon
Circle III of the Methodist
Church met August 23 at 3:00
o'clock in the church. Mrs. J. P.
Black, chairman, presided over
the business session. Mrs. R. H.
Lee had charge of the Bible les-
son. The opening hymn was
“God Madest Earth and Heaven."
Mrs. J. P. Black led in prayer.
The lesson covered the first six
chapters of Genesis.
The chairman urged ail mem-
bers to be present for the birth-
day celebration at the church,
which will be Friday, August 27.
Mr. and Mrs. George Stubbs
and Rev. T. I. Sandlin visited
Mar ley W. Smith in Parkland
Hospital in Dallas Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Strange
and Mrs. E. A. Strange left Mon-
day morning for Temple where
Mrs. Strange underwent surgery
Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. F. P. Simmons
and daughters spent the week
end in Dallas where they visited
C. A. Uecker in Baylor Hospital
and Mar ley Smith in Parkland
Hospital.
Mrs. S. S. Roddy from Grand-
field, Okla., is spending this week
visiting Mr. and Mrs. George Fort.
E. R. Cole of Alamo and Mr.
and Mrs. LeRoy*Cole and son of
Harlingen visited Mr. and Mrs.
J. D. Moore last week.
Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Bounds and
son, Jimmy, attended a reunion
of the Chapman family in Wax-
ahachie Saturday night.
Mrs. Tyner Hostess
To W.S.C.S. Circle 2
Circle II of the Methodist
Church met August 22 with Mrs.
A. R Tyner as hostess. Mrs. Lou-
is Mathison. chairman, presided
over the business meeting. Mrs.
Fred Eddy read the minutes of
the last meeting. Other business
was discussed. P
We had three visitors: Mrs.
Hiram Boyd, our W. S. C. S.
President; Mrs Frank Turner,
and Mrs. Nilar Powers. Seven-
teen members were present.
We had a special prayer for
Mrs. M. C. Strange, who is in the
Scott and White Hospital at Tem-
ple.
The Bible study for the after-
noon was conducted by Mrs. Lou-,
is Mathison.
The hostess served ice cream
sodas.
New Daughter Arrives
At Tyner Home
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Tyner of
Mexia announce the arrival of a
daughter Monday, August 23, in
a Mexia hospital. She weighed
54 pounds on arrival and has
an older sister. Charlotte, and a
brother, Roy Dean.
Mrs. Ella Tyner of Wortham is
the paternal grandmother.
C L. Keeling of Overton was
in Wortham on business Tuesday.
Mrs. Ella Tyner visited Mr.
and Mrs. J. W. Tyner of Waco
last week and they retuined to
Mexia Monday to visit Mr. and
Mrs. Gordon Tyner- and new
daughter.

Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Adams were
called to Dallas Saturday night
because their son-in-law, Marley
W. Smith, of Corsicana was criti-
cally injured in an accident Sat-
urday afternoon.
Misses Diane Sims, Audrey Ol-
iver, Grade Sandlin and Anna
Beth Stone have returned from
Camp Peniel, Cold Springs, Tex.
New Son Arrives

Mr. and Mrs. Alton Frost an-
nounce the arrival of a son Tues-
day morning, August 24. at the
Christopher-Edgar Hospital in
Mexia. He weighed eight pounds
and one ounce.
The Frosts have one other son,
Johnny. Maternal grandparents
are Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Johnson
of Wortham and paternal grand-
parent is C. C. Frost of Mexia.
J. D. Michaels Are
Parents of New Son
Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Michael,
Melton and Alvin announce the
arrival of a daughter and sister,
Karen Sue, born in Navarro Clin-
ic August 11, and weighing sev-
en pounds, two ounces. Mater-
nal grandparents are Mr. and
Mrs. J. C. Weaver and- paternal
grandparents are Mr. and Mrs.
D R. Michael of Wortham.
The wonderful showers were
welcomed in our community Sun-
day afternoon—just hindered our
cotton picking for e few days.
We had a small fire at the gin'
recently — an out-house burned
while the gin hands were at
home for lunch.
Piagah Ridge played the North
Houston Redsocks on the cotton
mill grounds Sunday evening—
score was 12 to 2 for Pisgah
Ridge.

at Currie Sunday, August 2».
Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Gage and
daughter of Gladewater visited
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Pace a
few days last week.
Sgt. and Mrs. Troy L. Magness
and baby daughter, formerly of
Yuma, Ariz., have been visiting
the past 10 days in the home of
his parents, Mr and Mrs. Charlie
Magness. Sgt. Magness will sail
from New York for Germany
about Sept. 15.
Mrs. C. A. Tackett left Satur-
day to spend a few weeks in
Houston with her daughters,
Mrs. C. R. French and Mrs. J. B
Padgett.
Second Lt. and Mrs. A. W.
Collier spent the week end with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. A.
Collier.
Mr. and Mrs. Pearl Pace and
daughter of Gladewater visited
Mr. and Mrs. L. O. Pace and
family Sunday.
Store visitors passing through
on their vacation were Mr. and
Mrs. N. J. Burda of Houston en
route to Sioux City, la., to visit
their son, Albert, who is sta-
tioned there; Mr. and Mrs. Elzie
Smith of Mabank, en route to
Bay City to visit his sister, Mrs.
D. A. Bidges.
Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Living-
ston visited Mr. and Mrs. E. L. |
Fisher of Mullins last week end
M. S. Smith of Streetman and
Okley Baker of Odessa visited
over the week end with Mr. and
Mrs. Marvin Smith and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Buddy Bennett,
Ted Weaver, Shirley Bosley spent
last week sightseeing and fishing
at Galveston, Houston, Baytown,
Pasadena and Livingston. They
were joined at Galveston on
Wednesday by John Stubbs Rob-
ert Bennett and William Baldwin.
They all visited in the homes of
