VELVETY CHOCOLATE CAKE
A tempting, creamy rich choco-
late cake is always an excellent
answer to the problem of what to
serve for party refreshments or
company dessert. The smooth, vel-
vety cake makes an ideal after-
school snack or lunchbox treat for
the children, too.
Velvety Chocolate Cake
% cup water
3 squares chocolate ■ 1
114 cups sugar ’
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
14 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup fortified margarine
3 eggs
M cup milk
Use 2 nine-inch round cake pans
or 2 square eight-inch pans, two
inches deep. Line the bottom of
the cake pans with paper and
margarine. Start the oven heating
with the oven control set in a
moderate position (325” to 375’ F.).
Mix the chocolate, water, and 1/3
cup of sugar in a pan and cook
over very low heat until thick.
Remove from the heat and cool to
room temperature. Add the flavor-
ing. All ingredients should be at
room temperature. Sift the flour
and measure; add the salt and
baking powder. Sift again. Cream
the margarine thoroughly, adding
the remaining sugar gradually.
Beat until fluffy. Add the eggs ono
at a time, beating nftcr each egg Is
added. Add the chocolate mixture
(be sure it is cooled to room tem-
perature! and beat until smooth.
Now add the dry ingredients and
milk, adding about 1/3 of each at
a time and finishing with the dry
ingredients. Stir just enough to
mix. Pour into prepared cake pans,
Place in pre-heated moderate oven.
Bake 25 to 35 minutes. Remove
from pans and cool on rack. This
recipe may be baked In muffin
pans for cupcakes. It will mako
from 18 to 30, depending on size.

Rev. Arthur Renfro
Honored With Picnic
At Mt. Nebo
Saturday night, May 28th
at Mt. Nebo Church, a group
of members and visitors met
to honor the young pastor.
Rev. Arthur Renfro and his
assistant, Rev. Bob Logan.
Delicious fried chicken and
all the good things that com-
plete a picnic lunch were ser-
ved. An old-fashioned sing-
song was enjoyed by the
group.
Rev. Renfro has completed
his course of study at West-
minster and will attend A &
M College this fall. He will
continue his pastorate here
until the church can be sup-
plied with his successor. His
services at Mt. Nebo have
been an inspiration to the
church and the entire com-
munity, and is appreciated
by all.
Rev. Logan is leaving for
his home in Montana shortly.
The prayers and best wishes
of everyone go with these
fine young ministers.
