pose at Santiago before it became
fever stricken The city has stir
lendered the sole condition being
that the Spanish troops aie to be

our government has already
ananged to do by sending them in

the purpoio This will leave all of
our own transports Iree to carry
our leverstricken troops back to
our own shoies and to move the
army to Porto Ilico the invest-
ment of which is to bo begun at
once Two immune regiments one
at Galveston commanded by Col
Rlcho and several negro legiments
in conjunction with Garcias
Cubans uie to comprise the per-
manent ganison at Santiago All
the rest of the troops aie to be
withdrawn immediately

We give below an extract from
the state law governing fish and
fishing which will no doubt prove
of interest to fishermon and per-
haps save them trouble
An Act to prohibit the taking
offish from the fiesH waters lakes
and streams of this State other-
wise than by means of the ordinary
hook and line and trot line and
to prohibit the sale or shipping of
game fish in this State and to pro
vide penalties for the violation
thereof
Section 1 Bo it enacted by the
Lcgidatuie of the State of Texas
That if any peisnn shall at any-
time during the year take catch
ensnare or entrap any fish except
minnows for bait by means of
net traps poibon or dynamite or
in any other manner than with the
ordinary book and line or tiot
line in any of the fresh watei
lakes and streams of this State
huch person chall be deemed guilty
of a misdemeanor and upon con-
viction theieof shall be fined not
less than twentyfive dollars and
not moie than ono hundred dollars
provided that minnows for bait
shall not be taken by poison or
dynamite
