I am not surprised at this show-
ing he said yesterday I have been
watching the receipts of now cotton at
points throughout tho state since tho
first bales began coming in and felt
certain that tho falling off as compared
with previous years was very great
much greater than was generally sup-
posed The Galveston receipts dem-
onstrate ona thing very positively and
that Is that the cotton season Is fully
four weeks late Instead of being only
three weeks lato as has been thought
The greatest danger to cotton now
Is an early frost If frost should come
at the usual time say about Nov 15
It would cause the destruction of a
vast amount of cotton which tho boll
weevil and boll worm may not have de
stioyed
The delayed and slow receipts will
keep up the price of cotton but when
the picking season gets in full blast
farmers will rush In their cotton to
market and a fall of prices may re-
