United Slates
Whereas by tho Act of Congross ap-
proved July 2 1009 tho Thirteenth
Decennial Census of tho United States
is to bo taken beginning on tho fif-
teenth day of April nineteen hundred
and ten and
Whereas a correct enumeration of
the population oveiy ten jeais Is re-
quired by tho Constitution of the
United States for the purpose of de-
termining tho representation of tho
several States in the House o Itepre
senativos and
Whereas lt Is of tho utmost Import
ant to the interests of all tho people
of the United States that this census
should bo a complete and accurato le
port of tho population and resourses
of the country

of America do hereby declaro and
make known that under tho act afore-
said lt Is the duty of every person to
answer all questions on tho census
schedules applying to him and the
family to which ho belongs and to the
farm occupied by him or his famllj
and that any adult refusing to do so
Is subject to penalty

secure general statistical information
regarding tho population and re-
sources of tho countryand replies aie
required from individuals only in
order to permit tho compilation of
such general statistics Tho census
has nothing to do with taxation with
army or jury services with tha com

Came to Light in Houston
Last Week
Tho facts in the case as it now standd
aro as follows On Wednesday afternoon
last Sheriff Anderson was called to 73L
Ashland avenue Houston Heights to
investigate a house which had been clos-
ed up for a few days and about which
neighbors were suspicious Mr Ander-
son arrived at tho placo about 2 oclock
in tho afternoon and lookoil over the
premises Under the houso at tbe front
he found thrco guns An examination
of the doors and windows showed that
they vvcro securely locked
The sheriff believing that tho suspi
cions of tho neighbors were well founded
forced a w indow When ho raised tho
sash tho odor from tlio inside of the
houso drovohlm back I belIoo there Is
somo ono dead m hero ho exclaimed
and taking a gulp of fresh air ho jump
through the window Ho walked through
tho room to a door leading further back
which ho opened Ho entered a little
bed room containing two iron beds III
tho narrowspaco between the two bedsf
ho saw a pile of human bodies
When tho green blind was raised a
tho window It was seen that thcro were
fivo bodies iu all thoso of two men a
woman and two children horribly in-
termingled and resting amid a blood
covered disorder of bed clothing torn
down mosquito bars and wearing api
parel When the bodies were separated
under tho eyo of Justico of tho Icaco
McDonald they were identified as those
of Walter Eichman a painter Gus
Schultz a lineman employed by tho
Houston Electric company Alice
Schultz the wife of Gus Schultz and

night and that no ono had been seen in
or about it since that time On the

pated in by somo of the neighbors and
friends of tho famdy Sandy Shef- <
field a friend of tha family who had
been most friendly with Mrs Schultz
and who it s understood roomed with
tho Schultz family for a time took part
in the jollity

Halletsvillo Texas March 13 The
grand jury adjourned yesterday after
having been in session sinco last Mon-
day They returned ten bills fivq being
felonies and five misdemeanors Tho
felonies are Two for burglary one for
assault to murder ono for theft and one
for incest All tho defendants are ne-
groes
Among tho misdemeanors is ono
against a local merchant for selling can-
non fire crackers without hiving first
paid the occupation tav and one
against a merchant in another small
town in tho county for selling blank
cartridgo pistols without first having
paid the occupation Jax
Tho stato ta levied is 500 and tho
county tax is 250 Tho law fixing this
tax was passedby the Thirtyfirst legis-
lature
