The Medina Rotary Club has
teen discussing the need for a
blood program for the Medina
community for several months
according to Rev R M Porche,
president. The directors fell that a
survey should first be made to
determine the overall interest of
the community before making any
definite plans. A sample survey
was made at the Old Hatfield Store
for a period of two weeks. During
that period 52 persons signed up
that they would donate blood if the
Bloodmobile visited Medina
After the Community had shown
their interest the directors of
Rotary appointed a Steering
.Committee with Floyd Mayfield as
chairman, and .with Rev, Porche.
Sid Meinhardt and Murray
LeStourgeon as committee
members
The Steering Committee
arranged a meeting on March 1st
with John Whittleman, who is a
Volunteer Bloodmobile Consultant
for this area and a resident of
Knrrville At this meeting it was
definitely decided that the
Bloodmobile would be scheduled
to visit Medina on April loth
Other preliminary plans for donor
recruitment, recruiting of the
numerous volunteer helpers
needed, etc , were made and as
Soon as these plans are firmed up
they will be published
—Mr Mayfield advised that from
a statistical standpoint there are
substantially •moee qualified
donors in this fcammunity than will
be needed The goal has not been
definitely established but it is
planned-’that the results will be
adequate to furnish every man,
woman, and child with full blood
needs in the Medina community
The committee asked that
everyone who is qualified to do so,
start giving serious consideration
to giving a linft of their blood oh'
April }0th, The giving is prac-
tically painless and takes only a
short period of time. While every
unit of blood is not one that ac
tually saves a life it will definitely
do one of three things—it w-ill give
some desperately ill or injurei
person a fighting chance for life-
it will hasten the recovery of somt
person—or it will "be that par-
ticular unit that will mean the
difference between life and death
to some person. Science has found
no substitute for.blood—when it it
needed it must come from some
concerned individual who has
given a bit ol himself for others
