TOLAR
(By Hr«. L. H. Allen)
The Christmas of 1944 is history
and we are hoping and praying
that before another Christmas Day
is here there will be “Peace on
earth and good will toward men’’
everywhere.
Rev. and Mrs. L. Randall Rodg-
ers spent the holidays in Weather-
ford with his parents.

and daughter of Fort Worth' and
Mrs. Alton Williams and son, Gene
of Ballinger spent the Christmas
holidays with their parents, Mr.
and Mrs. J. C. Kerr.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Allen were
very happy this Christmas because
of a son, Monroe Allen, who has
served overseas in Africa for 26
months, arrived home last week to
spend a 30-day furlough with his
parents and wife who lives in Dal-
las. Other children present for the
happy occasion were Francis Allen,
wife and two sons of Camp Hood,
Gilbert Attan of MiOiegut and
Dorothy Allen of Dallas.
Mr. and Mrs. James B. Finley of
Vernon and Mrs. Charles Ray Mc-
Uroy and son and dhughter of. Ty-
ler are spending the holidays with
their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom
McHroy.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Cox are happy
to announce the arrival of a son,
born to them last week. He has
been named Jerry Don. The father
came here from Walla Walla,
Wash., to help care for his young
son. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Swain
are the grandparents of the . new
arrival.
Joe McHroy who works in Co-
manche spent the holidays with his
family.
Friends and relatives are glad to
hear that Miss Edna Baker is im-
proving nicely at this time. She is
in the Methodist Hospital in Fort
Worth.
Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Turner had
as Christmas guests the following
daughters and sons and their fami-
lies: Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Cul|
per and three daughters of Dallas,
Mr. and Mrs. K. H. Faulkner, Jr.,
and don, Kenny, Freeport; Mr. and
Mrs. Diels Ed<flemon and son, Hill-
yard; Mr. and Mrs. Rush Turner
and two daughters. Tolar; Mr. and
Mrs. Coke Turner and son, David,
Fort Worth. All the children with
the exception of one daughter and
family, Mr. and Mrs. A1 Robison
and son and daughter of New York,
were present for the happy occas-
ion. <
ing attention to the fact that
Board-members are all volunteers
and not only receive no pay for
their services but have business of
their own to operate, Mr. Spangler
urged that no applications be taken
to a board member by a consumer.
Such action .will only tend to de-
lay issuance besides taking up the
j valuable time of the board member.
Under the new arrangment in
effect, all approved rations will be
) mailed out. and the only rations
which will be issued over the coun-
ter in the future will be those
where hardship would result or in
the cases of emergencies or fur-
lough rations for service men.
To prevent possible inconven-
ience, clerks at the local office here
suggest that applicants try to an-
ticipate their needs and file their
applications for gasoline and the
other commodities a few days in
advance of the time actually need-
ed.

The past is behind but the future is before us. With each
page of the calendar marked off, has gone our record
either of things accomplished or things neglected. What- *
ever the record is, it is past and we have the future to
face with its golden opportunities. May you have the joy
and satisfaction of knowing that every day during 1945

will show things worthwhile achieved.
