Chapter Marks
Founders Day
Stars of Hope Chapter No.
471, Order of the Eastern Star,
Prince Hall Affiliate, cele-
brated Founders' day on July
19.
The activities began at 2:30
in the afternoon at the Noble
Star No. 227 Lodge hall In Uni-
versal City. The chapter was
constituted and Inaugurated with
Melvin Sance, Jr., past grand
patron, presiding. The charter
presentation was a part of the
proceedings. Following the
election of officers, the char-
tered members listed were In-
stalled as officers for 1975-
1976. Mrs. Ulysses Cooper-
worthy matron: John Womack,
worthy patron; Mrs. Lloyd
Blanchard, Associated matron;
Joe C. Salne, associate patron;
Mrs. Sylvester McGlothan,
conductress; Mrs. Alfonso Hud-
son, associate conductress;
Mrs. James H. Askew, treas-
urer, and Mrs. Sammy L.
Jones, financial secretary. Ap-
pointed officers and remaining
charter members include Mrs.
John Womack, Sylvester Mc-
Glothan, Mrs. Jerry Wheel-
wright, Mrs. Janette Whitfield,
Mrs. Albert Vickers, Mrs. Don-
ald Hyatt. Mrs. John Sanford,
Mrs. Vangle Taylor, Mrs. Pet-
er J. Stlth, Mrs. Wiley Wills,
Sammy L. Jones, Donald Hyatt,
James H. Covington, Billy R.
Robinson, Theodore Sanford,
and Lloyd Blanchard.
Dignitaries and visitors In
attendance included Mrs. Eddie
M. Johnson, worthy grand
matron, of Houston; Mrs. Eddie
Doxle, district deputy; Melv.n
Sance, Jr., past grand patron,
and Mrs. Myrtle Johnson, grand

San Antonio and Kerrvllle.
Stars of Hope Chapter and
guests culminated the celebra-
tions with a Founders’ day din-
ner xi 6:30 at the Randolph
AFB NCO club. Mrs. Lloyd
Blanchard served as mistress
of ce remorses and Melvin
Sance, Jr., a researcher at
the Institute of Texan Cultures
and Past Grand Patron,
addressed the gathering on the
Heritage of Stars of Hope chap-
ter and challenged the new chap-
ter to carry out Its plans of
beneflclent obligations to its
Immediate and surrounding
communities.
The newly Installed Mrs.
Ulysses Cooper Introduced spe-
cial guest, Mrs. Jack E. Tui-
let, distinguished grand offic-
ers, and numerous guests from
visiting chapters and the Ran-
dolph area. Certificates of
appreciation were presented to
Mrs. Susie Doxle, Mrs. Myrtle
Johnson, and Melvin Sance, Jr.
for their role In organising
the chapter. Special tribute
was also given Ulysses Cooper
for tils unselfish, unrelenting
support.

Bexar County Opportunities
Industrialization Center, *e-
corporated (BCOIC), will con-
tinue to serve the underem-
ployed, unemployed and dis-
advantaged sector of the com -
munity next year, said Rev.
LaValle Lowe Jr., chairman,
board of directors, BCOIC.
BCOIC has received $99,350
in federal Manpower funds to
carry out its feeder and voca-
tional skill training programs
of training the economically
disadvantaged In the local com-
munity.
BCOIC will continue conduct-
ing free vocational training In
key punch, cashier checking,
basic bricklaying, basic car-
pentry and basic electricity.
All persons Interested In this
type of training should contact
one of the three Manpower Serv-
ice centers at 2217 Colima
street, 930 North New Braunfels
avenue or 4029 Commercial
avenue, or call BCOIC at 225-
0291.
BCOIC will also provide In-
dividual and group counseling
services as well as give job
orientation classes.
