Jottings

The year 2003 is ending on a positive note for the city of Sinton
with projects budgeted by the council underway or on the draw-
ing board. '
The drainug? problem that plagued the Back Street Cafe and
the G & R Cleaners is being solved with the finishing touches nn
the street underway as we speak.
The Back Street has beeh remodeled, enlarged and the outside
repainted to give it a whole new look. While I was in Florida, rpy
son and I were reading recipes in the Texas Highways magazine
when we spotted a reference to the Back Street Cafe in a section
on favorite small town cafes. A Portland resident had written into
praise the cafe and it's bean bar and excellent menu. It was nice
to see Sinton mentioned in such a positive way.
I missed the Texas Country Reporter segment on Aunt Aggie
D's but those who $aw it had favorable comments. Maybe they'll
rerun it someday.
I see that the Lumberyard is nearing its opening date and the
city has put a For Sale sign on the empty lots on Sinton Street.
Also underway is the widening of several Sinton streets and the
council has approved a contract with BF1 for new trash recepta-
cles and|a new schedule for picking up tree limbs.
The city is participating in the HOME program again this year
and it's Possible that nine qualifying residents will move into
brand n« w homes soon. Applicants are chosen on their age,
income a id degree of disability. This is an excellent program and
the counc 1 is to be congratulated for participating in it each year.
