McDowell, former Graham bank
pmaident, was sentenced to two years
ia the Federal penitentiary at Leav-
enworth, Kan., Thursday night, af-
ter he had pleaded*guilty to charges
of embezzling over $30,000 from the
Graham National Bank. W. O.
Nelson, formerly an officer in the
hank, is now serving a three-year
sentence on a similar charge.
McDowell was jointly * indicted
with W. O. Nelson, who was found
guilty of the charge upon a plea of
not guilty in June, 1923, and was
sentenced in thirty months in the
Federal penitentiary. Final judg-
ment was taken and executions is-
sued against a bond of $7,500 in the agreement declare that Mrs. Barnes,

reported terms of a pre-nuptial
agreement, occurred here when Mrs.
Florence Lear, 60, became the bride
of Wililam H. Barnes, 39.
According to the asserted arrange-
ment, Barnes rdiaquiahes all claims
to half of his wife's estate—the
amount allowed him by law—should
she die before he does. In return
Mrs. Barnes is said to have agreed
to make a will deeding all of her
property to Barnes, the will includ-
ing a provision that the instrument
shall be void if the marriage proves
an unhappy one.
Witnesses of the pre-nuptial
who is said to possess an extensive
court in 1923. McDowell was re- | estate, but is in poor health, de-
