Fairfield Hospital
Receives Gift From
Ford Foundation •
A check for £5,000 from the
Ford Foundation has been re-
ceived by the Freestone Coun-
ty Hospital, It was revealed last
-week.
This, is half of the Freestone
County Hospital's share of the
Foundation's S200.000.000 grant
program to. assist the nation's
3,500 voluntary, non-profit
hospitals to improve their ser-
vices. The remainder of the gift
is expected to be paid next year.
Under the terms of the grant,
final decision as to the use of
the money Is left td the hos-
pital's governing board. The
only condition made by the
Foundation In jits original an-
nouncement of the grant pro-
gram last Dec 12, was that the
funds could not be used for re-
paying past obligations or
"operating expenses for ser-
vices currently being performed
by hospitals." ~
Richard Hill, chairman of the
board of directors of the hos-
pital. said that Ip making for-
mal application for the grant,
it had informed the Foundation
of possible uses of the money.
These included laundry build-
ing. air conditioning, emergency
room and equipment. AbouT 65
per cent of the air conditioning
has been done since the appli-
cation was made.

Ginner Here Tuesday
After completing the new in-
cinerator at the Stfift & Compa
ny Gin here, the first bale of
1956 cotton was ginned Tues-
day afternoon, George Fulton,
local manager, has announced.
The bale of cotton, belonging
to Alva Robinson of Donie. had
been stored at the gin since
August 8, and weighed -520
pounds after it was ginned, Ful-
ton said.
Fulton said his gin Is not buy-
ing cotton, but that they offer
a free sampling and grading
service to their customers.

At Donie Friday' Night
Rev. Z. Z. Nobles,- well known
Baptist minister of Teague, will
celebrate his 56th „ ministerial
anniversary Friday night, Au-
gust 24, when he will preach at
the Donie Baptist Church at
8:00 o’clock.
He started' Ms ministry 56
years ago at Prairie Point in
Limestone County, and he wlh
be 91 years old on September
10.
