rPODAY, there is great resur-
x fence ot emphasis on religion
in the home. And this is a good
thinf. But we must never forget
the vital role of the church. The
two, home and church, ought to
go together in the life of every
family that would be in any real
sense Christian.
Family religion, fine as it can
be made, is not enough in itself.
A family religion, divorced from
the church and lacking the full
expression of Christian fellow-
ship, epuld not be in any real
sense completely Christian. The
family needs the church as much
as the church needs the family.
The flnft Christians, those of
the early church, had all things
in common. They experienced
communal living as do groups of
Christians in monasteries or re-
ligious orders.
Such communal endeavor has
been practiced at many times
and in many places during the
centuries since the church began.
This does not mean that com-
munal living, as these first
Christians practiced, it, is either
•adyisable or feasible under the
complex conditions of modem
society in which the vast major-
ity of us play a part
But it does mean that even in
the moat cohgtlex social condi-
tions, true Christians will wish.
ta> live unselfishly, using them-
selves and their possessions for
the doing of the will of God, and
for the biassing of their fellow
