Crop Prospects Improving
After the wettest spring in
several years, crops are begin
ning to look good in several
communities. Many farmers lost
their oats and vetch due to ex-
cessive moisture. Our com crop
is short and a big per cent is
late. Only a small per cent of
farmers got com planted in
early March. Those who did
plant at that time and used
enough fertilizer will harvest a
bumper yield. Several fields
have been observed that will
yield 60-80 bushels per acre.
The cotton crops is coming
along fine with generally light
to moderate insect damage up to*
this time. Those who got cotton
up and started in May, poisoned
and cleaned out, have some
good fields of cotton that is set-
ting fruit now. All cotton farm-
ers are cautioned against ap-
plying at this time, unless ab-
solutely necessary. Insects
counts will dictate whether
poisoning is in order.
