Shocking Accident.
One of the most shocking ac-
cidents that ever happened in
Fredericksburg has just occured.
Uddo Basse, eldest son of Mr.
Alford Basse, one of the most
prominent citizens and merchants,
and Felix Keller, each about 15
years old, were in the hostler’s
room of Keller’s stabkf where the
latter wauled to show something
about a 38-calibro pistol, in hand-
ling which he must have touched
the trigger and the diBchargo went
through tho left side of the jun-
fortunate boy’s abdomen. Medi-
cal aid was summoned, but the
wound was found to bo of so se-
rious nature that no human aid
could help. His life gradually
ebbed away until death relieved
him of his sufferings. Uddo was a

POWDER
HOW CREAM TARTAR IS MADE.
Cream of Tartar—which enter* to largely into the manufacture of Dr
Price'* Cream Baking Powder—it obtained from the tart Vinca of France,
Germany, Austria, etc. The Crude Tartar, called Argolia, is deposited on the
•idea of the wine casks during the fermentation of the wine. After the wine
is drawn off, this crystal deposit it removed, dried and exported to America
where the elaborate process of refining take* place, producing the snow-white
crystals of Cream of Tartar.
In singling out Dr. Price's Cream Baking Powder from all
its competitors and bestowing upon it a special Gold Medal, the
California Midwinter Fair concurred in the verdict given by the
World's Fair jury, which awarded both medal and diploma to
Dr. Price’s Cream Baking Powder, declaring it superior to every
other brand.
The victories won by it at all the great fairs, and its
wonderful growth in popular favor, doe to its purity, uniformity,
wholesomenessifcfcecping qualities and excellence, have confirmed
and emphasized it as
“The Foremost Baking Powder in all the World.”

Visitors to Great Cities.
, Paris in 1897 was visited by 800.-
000 visitors. Berlin by 517,000. and
Vienna by 364,000. Thirteen years ago
tho figures for the three cities were:
Paris, 684.000; Berlin, 268,000, and
Vienna, 184,000, the relatively larger
increase in the laat probably having
something to do with the freedom
fi;om Dreyfus affairs and less majeste
laws. In thirteen years Paris hotels
have entertained 8,500,000 guests, those
of BepMn 4,500,000. and those of Vienna
I 3,000,000. It would be difficult to ob-
tain accurate figures for New York and
1-ondon, owing to the lack of police
supervision of hotel registers.
