LONE STAR STATE PHILATELIST.
GEORGES CARTON.
The subject of this sketch is Georges
Carion, a popular and well known
dealer and philatelic expert of San
Francisco.
Georges Carion, the resident vice-
president of the Southern Philatelic
Association for California, was born
in Paris, France, and began collecting
stamps in 1876. He became a dealer
in 1879, and still has an office in Paris.
He has published two philatelic papers
in France, "The Bulletin Mensuel," in
1884, and "La Timbrologie" in 1885,
but owing to the great increase of his
business he was compelled to discon-
tinue all publications, and devote his
entire time to stamps. He came to
San Francisco some years ago, andhas met with much success.
He contributed articles to a few of
the stamp papers in France, and many
articles to the American press. These
articles have attracted much attention,
and he has made us acquainted with
many facts concerning these stamps
that were previously unknown to the
American collectors.
Mr. Carion is known as an expert
on all stamps, and is acknowledged to
be the highest authority on the stamps
of France and her colonies.
He is a member of all the leading
societies, and is resident vice-president
for the S. P. A., L. of A. P. and C. P. S.
He is a man of great ability, is w-ll-
educated and has many friends.f ,
