LONE STAR STATE PHILATEL[ST.
to th members of the southern Philatlic JAssociation
I.
I would lean my spirit o'er you,
And congratulate your wisdom in your choice of ruling men.
You are proud, and I am thankful, that we have associations
That will dignify collectors equal with our northern ken.
II.
And I shake your hand with fervor, and I smile at your rejoicing,
And my bosom swells with gladness that the S. P. A. yet lives.
For she represents Philately down in the Sunny Southland,
And without her we would perish for communion that she gives.
III-
We are not a combination of office-seekers merely,
Nor established for the purpose of political pow-wow,
But a band who seek improvement in our dearly loved vocation-
Yes, a band who seeks to place a crown of laurels on her brow.
Iv.
Oh ! She's seen dark days and trouble-been accused and oftimes censured,
And the question of her policy debated east and west,
But she stood the tide of censure, and she'll stand tides of laudation,
Unperverted, unaffected, serenely at her best.
V.
Let us then unite, my brothers, in upholding this, our union,
Let us ever be attentive to her welfare and her needs.
Always ready to defend her, always anxious to commend her,
Every one of us protectors of her sentiments and deeds.
W. LIONEL MOIsE.
