LONE STAR STATE PHILATELIST.
FREDERICK NOYES.
At the San Antonio conventions we
had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Fred-
erick Noyes, of Alice, Texas. We
have met many friends who worship
at the shrine of the Goddess of Phil-
atelia, but have never met one more
entertaining or better posted on phil-
atelic subjects.
Mr- Noyes commenced collecting in
1863, when but a school boy. He used
to send to European dealers in Eng-
land, France and Germany for stamps
and sell them to his schoolmates. For
several years he bought and sold many
stamps which are now the greatest
rarities, for a few cents each. He quit
collecting in 1872, after leaving college,
but always kept a kindly interest in
stamps. A few years later he took a
trip to Mexico, and stayed there a
year. While there he secured a large
number of old Mexican stamps, which
in former times were considered greatrarities, and resumed collecting. He
exchanged these with foreign collec-
tors for other stamps, and thus laid
the basis for his present large business.
He commenced dealing in 1884, and is
still in business at Alice.
Mr. Noyes has a special inclination
towards old issues, and has a magnifi-
cent collection of old German States
and British Colonials.
Mr. Noyes collects and handles used
stamps only. He is president of The
Texas Philatelic Association, Counter-
feit Detector of The Southern Phila-
telic Association, as well as a member
of all the leading societies. He is an
active participator in the exchange
departments.
To know him establishes confidence
in him and inspires all who meet him
with feelings of respect, and those
who had the pleasure of meeting him
will long remember the occasion.PU1
