Tke Arlnat Cowboy, Rex Allen ha* been signed to appear daring
each performance of the world championship rodeo at the San
Antonio Stock Show. Feb. 20 thru March 1st. Allen is a western
movie star of Republic Pictures who was born and raised on a ranch.
His father was a Texan who moved to Arizona when the state was
admitted to the Union. Allen will bring Koko. the miracle horse of
the movies with him to the San Antonio show.

MRS. E. M. POWERS
The Junction basketball boys’
team played the local boys in the
Barksdale gym last week, the game
resulting in a score of 48-32 in fa-
vor of the Barksdale team.
Mrs. Allen Lovcrcheck spent tilt-
day in town last Tuesday visiting
Jriends.
Rev. and Mrs. M. H. Keen were
visiting in Montell one day last
week. Rev. Keen preaches for the
Methodist churches at Montell and
Barksdale. He reports that three
families have recently been receiv-
ed into the local congregation.
They are Tom Nolan and daugh-
ter, Miss Josephine Nolan, Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Jernigan and little dau-
ghter, Jane and Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Walzel.
There has been a good deal of
sickness here for the past week or
ten days. Mrs. Leonard Lacey and
Mrs. Josie Guthrie were taken to
the Rocksprings Hospital early
last week, but are better at this
time.
Mr. and Mrs. Boss Beck of Sa-
binal visited relatives here last
week.
Mrs. Carl Roberts and Mrs. Et-
hel Pope were in Uvalde one day
last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Luther Norman,
Mr. and Mrs. T. O. Brunson and
Mrs. Josie Guthrie attended the
Roy Luce funeral in Montell on
Monday of last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Trees, who re-
cently moved into their new home,
were honored Wednesday night with
a miscellaneous shower. The large
number of useful and beautiful
gifts prove the popularity of the
couple. The hostesses, Mrs. Clara
Vernor, Mrs. Frankie Lee Wood
and Mrs. Margurite Craig served
coffee, cold drinks and cookies to
about 45 guests.
Saturday guests in the C. C.
Williams home were her father, Mr.
Griffin of San Angelo and her bro-

Christi. Mr. Griffin was going
home with his son for a visit.
Mrs. Dan Roberts, who has been
ill, was brought in front their
Cedar Creek ranch to the home of
her daughter. Mrs. Allen Stovall,
to be cared for. She is better at
this writing.
Mr. and Mrs. Luther Norman
received word Friday night of tin-
death of her brother. Judge Stubbs.
They went to Johnson City, where
the funeral took place on Saturday
afternoon, and returned that night.

Wood, at Leakey.
Jan. 6, Barksdale vs. Leakey,
there.
Jan. 16, Rocksprings tournament.
Jan. 23, Barksdale vs. Rock-
springs there.
Jan. 24, Uvalde tournament.
Jan. 27, Barksdale vs. Brackett-
ville, here.
Jan. 30, Barksdale vs. Camp
Wood here.
Feb. 3, Barksdale vs. Brackett-
ville, there.
Feb. 6, Barksdale vs. Leakey,
here.
Feb. 13, Barksdale vs. Rock-
springs, here.
So far the Barksdale team has
won 9 games and lost one. Among
the games played were those with
Crystal City with a score of 26-24,
Brackettville 38-33 and Rockspr-
ings, 47-19 all in favor of the Barks-
dale team. The only loss was play-
ed with Uvalde, which the Uvalde
team won by a score of 56-50.
There is to be a study course on
the book of Ephesians at the Bap-
tist Church. It began' Monday
night and will continue with class-
es on Wednesday and Thursday
nights of this week and Monday
and Wednesday of next week. Ev-
eryone is cordially invited to at-
tend.
The attendance at Saturday night
meeting of the Square Dance Club
at the club house in Vance was
good, with two visitors, Mr. and
Mrs. Hog Welch attending. Some
time ago a visitor from Houston
took movies of the club and these
are to be shown at the club room
next Saturday night.

Mr. and Mrs. Jude Hale and
two boys of Snyder were week-end
visitors in Rocksprings last week
with Mr. Hale’s sister, Mrs. Ruby
Lomax and family.
The faculty and high school stu-
dents of the Rocksprings School
were guests pf Mr. and Mrs. Louie
Babb Thursday evening at the An-
gora Theatre when the picture "My
Son John” was presented. The
story portrayed the detriments of
communism as it seeps into a fami-
ly circle.
Mrs. Rose Guthrie returned to
Big Lake Tuesday with her dau-
ghter, Mr*. Bob Fisher to visit
the next two weeks. Mrs. Fisher
assisted with duties at the sheriff’s
office the past two weeks. Mrs.
Guthrie plans to he back at her
job by the first of February.
Mrs. T. A. Williams of Munich,
Germany spent the first of last week
in Rocksprings visiting Mrs. Hul-
ette Franks and other friends. Mrs,
Williams. Mrs. Franks and Mrs.
Gardner Franks also visited in
Uvalde with Mrs. Joe F. Brown.
Clahc Higginbotham spent sev-
eral days the first of the month in
Los Angeles, California. He re-
turned to Rocksprings last week-
end.

fn San Antonio Tuesday, where
Rev. Dulany underwent minor sur-
gery at the Nix Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Gilmer mov-
ed to Austin last week-end, where
Mr. Gilmer has business interests
the next few months.
Clarence Martin has accepted the
position as driver for the school
bus on the Brackettville Highway.
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Brumfield
of Uvalde were guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Jess Croft Sunday.
Mrs. Hulettc Franks and Mrs.
Dud Edwards were busine.-s visi-
tors in Junction Monday.
Word Sherritl of Uvalde visited
in Rocksprings Tuesday with hi*
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Word Sher-
rill. Mr. Sherrill’s condition has im-
proved in the past? two day*.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Morris*
and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Morriss re-
turned Wednesday from San An-
tonio, where they had been sev-
eral days. Mr. Thomas Morriss
underwent minor surgery at the
Santa Rosa Hospital last week.
Little Shelley Morriss has been
visiting with her grandparents, Mr.
and Mrs. Lowell Hankins.
Dr. Joe Kopecky of San An-
tonio was a business visitor in
Rocksprings the first of the week.
Mrs. Howard Grooms and Mrs.
Willard KvAtz were Del Kio visi-
tors Monday.
