Funeral 'services for Don H.
Riggers, 89, who founded six Tex-
as newspapers, were held at 10
a.m. Friday in the Stephenville
Funeral Home Chapel with burial
in West -End Cemetery. Dr. R. C.
Edwards, pastor of the First
Methodist Church, officiated.
• Bigger* wes a longtime I rath
County resident. He died Wednes-
day, Dec. 11, in a Dublin hospital
after a heart attack.
Biggers founded the Midland
Recorder in 1889 and later found-
ed t,h$ Colorado Spokesman, Abi-
lene Avalanche, Rotan News, East-
land Daily Oil Belt News and the
Independent Oil and Financial Re.
porter in Fort Worth. He sold the
latter paper in 1924.
At one time he was employeu
by the old Fort Worth Record.
He wrote several books, includ
ing ‘From Cattle Range to Cot-
ton Patch,” “Historical Sketches,
or History That Will Never Be
Repeated,” and “The History of
German Immigration and Settle-
ment of Texas.”
He was credited with putting
down the' first irrigation wells in
Lubbock County in 1914. During
1914 and 1915 he served as a state
representative. He .retired in 1924,
i Biggers returned here last month
.after living in Bertrum and Aran-
sas Pass.
SurVIvors are four • sons, Earl
and Clele Biggers of Aransas Pass,
Clyde Biggers of New Orleans and
Homan Biggers of Dayton, Ohio;
a daughter, Mrs. Hula' Long of
Holly wo: d, Cal.; a brother, Eu-
gene Biggers of Houston; six
grandchildren and seven great-
grandchildren.

An assortment of foods was served
buffet style to those who attended.
Mrs. Grayce Wilson, president,
presided at the business meeting
that followed. Mrs. Ray Sones open
cd the meeting with prayer. Mrs
Bryan Hale gave the Story of “The
Strange Young Artist”. The story
depicted the true meaning of the
approaching Christmas season.
The Yule theme was predorrii
-uate in the table decorations. Gifts
were exchanged from the Christ
mas tree, after Christmas carols

by Mrs. Ruth Denman, were sung
by the ladies.
The meeting was closed with

The O’Neal Circle of the First
Baptist Church met Dec. 9, in the
ranch home of Mrs. Bob Harper.
Eight members were present.
The devotional was given by
Mrs. E. R. Moon, who read the
second chapter of St. Luke, which
is the story of the birth of Christ.
Mrs. R. ft. George, in the ab-
sence of Mrs. J. Thomas Davis,
brought the lesson from fhe study
book “Continent ’in Commotion”.
Mrs. Marion Wood, circle chair-
man presided over the short busi-
ness meeting. Mrs. Harper, secre-
tary, read the minutes of the last
meeting. Plans were made to help
a less fortunate family at Christ-
mas.-Mrs. Harper closed the meet
Ing with prayer.
