Fredericksburg, Texas
up to Japan. Richard Harkness
reports from Washington the
prevailing opinion there is that
it will end any day and within
two weeks. Of course, Japan
may choose mass suicide, and it
would take a while longer to
oblige them.
Pobably Winston Churchill
best put into words what so
many millions feel as the revel-
ation of the terrific power of
destruction we have discovered
and hold begins to sink in. In
a statement Mr. Churchill said:
“This revelation of the secrets
of nature, long mercifully with-
held from man, should arouse
the most solemn reflections in
the minds and consciences of
every man capable of compre-
hension. We must indeed pray
that these awful agencies will
be made to conduce to peace
among nations and that instead
of wreaking measureless havoc
upon the entire globe they may
become the perennial fountain of
world prosperity.”

Little Jane was very inquisi-
tive, and annoyed her father with
endless questions, mostly while
he was reading the evening
paper. One night she demanded,
‘Daddy, what do you do at the
office all day?”
Exasperated, her father an-
swered briefly, “Oh, nothing.”
Jane was silent for a moment,
then asked, “But daddy, how do
you know when you are done?”
