ter. A meal will be catered at 7
p.m. Ladies are inv ited to bring a
dessert as usual. I he party is held
in con junction w ith a perfect time
for new members w anting to join
the VFW. Veterans who have re-
turned from the war in Iraq and all
other previous wars are eligible to
join. Please, bring a copy of your
honorable disharge or DD 214 to
prove that you were honorably dis-
charged from service and received
a campaign medal. Honored at the
party w ill be the first, second and
third place winners of the Yoa-
kum High School Voice of De-
mocracy contest and the Yoakum
Junior High School and the St.
Joseph School Patriot Pen essay
contest along with their parents
and teachers.

Scouting for Food project
• The Yoakum Boy Scout
I roop228, Venture Crew 225 and
Cub Scout Pack 224 are begin-
ning a Scouting For Food Project
until Christmas. The Scouts are
collecting nonperishable food
items and money for the local Yoa-
kum Food Pantry. The food items
and money can be given to any
Scout or parent, or taken to Shear
Hair Designs as a collecting loca-
tion. This year, as the Boy Scouts
of America celebrate it's 94th an-
niversary, a new national project,
"Do A Good Turn For America"
has been launches, and our Yoa-
kum Troop, Crew, and Cub Pack
want to be part of this wonderful
idea. Your support to the Troop,
Crew, and Pack and to Yoakum
itself, is very much appreciated.

ready
• The Yoakum unit of the
American Cancer Society has the
Relay For Life team captain pack-
ets ready for pick up. The event is
set for April 1-2, 2005. Packets
may be picked up at Yoakum Her-

Group
• The Alzheimer's Disease Sup-
port Group at the First United
Methodist Church, 407 N. Bridge,
in Victoria, is held the second and
fourth Thursdays of every month,
10:30 a.m. to noon, with its focus
on caregiver support. For more

Chamber Banquet
• After all the holidays we will
get back into the swing of every-
day life with the Chamber Ban-
quet scheduled for Jan. 27, 2005.
The Chamber has a wonderful
cowboy storyteller - humorist -
poet coming to entertain us ivith
history, stories, poems and cow-
boy philosophy. There will also
be lots of silent auction items, so
make plans to attend now. Tickets
will be available at the Chamber
office or from any Chamber di-
rector. Tickets will be $12 or $125
for a blue table of eight. Call (361)

Helping Hands donations
• Donations to Helping
Hands, located on the South side
of St. Joseph Parish on
Schrimscher are accepted on
Tuesday morning from 7:30 -
10:30 a.m., Wednesday evenings
from 5-7:30 p.m. and Saturday
morning from 7:30 a.m. to 12
noon. Donations are welcome
and appreciated, however, we
cannot accept items that are dirty,
torn or broken. The facility is
limited on space and storage so
donated items are asked to be
reasonable.

meets the first Thursday of every
month from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. in
the conference room at Yoakum
Community Hospital.

Scenes from The Nutcracker
The Yoakum Intermediate fourth and fifth graders performed The Nutcracker last Tuesday, Dec. 14 in the Yoakum
High School Auditorium from family, friends and teachers. Songs were sung by the fourth graders and seven scenes
from the play were performed by the fifth graders. The cast of characters included. Nutcracker. Jones Murphy; Judge
Drosslemeier, Kimberly ANderson; Marie, McKenzie Brittain; Mary, Jacinta Lecon; and Narrators Rhiana Solis
Ashley Schoenemann and Brice Lauer. This year's performance was dedicated to the memory of Willene Poynor
and Mary Boothe.
Czech Carols highlight St. Mary’s Midnight Mass

e.sti are just a few of the tradi-
tional Czech Christmas songs
which the St. Mary's Czech
Choir will be singing at the Mid-
night Mass Christmas Serv ice at
St Mary's Catholic Church west
of Hallcttsv ille.
The Czech Choir has sung at
the Christmas Midnight Mass
for the past several years. If you
have never attended, you will be
in for a real treat this Christmas
as the choir presents the rever-
ent and joyous strains of Old
World Czech carols.
Under the vocal direction of
parishioner, Richard Rouse and
the expert accompaniment of
Denise Drozd, the choir fills the
historic St Mary's Church with
sounds from the area's Czech
heritage.
Of course, the congregation
is encouraged to join in singing
the many English Christmas
songs during the service. A beau-
tiful rendition of Silent Sight
will be sung in both English and
Czech.
The public is cordially inv ited
to attend the Celebration of the
Feast of the Nativity of Our Lord
at St. Mary's Church The choir
will begin singing at 11:30 p.m.,
Friday, Dec. 24, with the Christ-
mas Mass at Midnight follow-
ing.
