The afternoon meeting, with 26
members present,' began with the
devotional led by Mrs. A. J. Al-
len. Mrs. C. W. Richmond assist-
ed Mrs. Matherson with the details
of the program on “Mountain Mis-
sions,” and was the first speaker
choosing “Missionary Work Carri-
ed On Among the Mountain Peo-
ple” as her subject. Mrs. J. W.
Knudson discussed he “Progress
Made in the Mountain Schools”
giving statistics and records of the
■ work.
„ Other speakers were Mrs. Char-,
le* Jones. Mrsfi Newell Anderson,
■and Mrs. John M. Halliburton. The
dast named. Mrs. Halliburton, who
■ has recently moved here with her
family from Memphis, Tenn., gave
an Impromptu talk which was
greatly appreciated by the group.
The subject was the state welfare
work in Tennessee and Kntucky.
I' j The next all-day meeting will be
held. Sept. 5. at the home of Mrs.
Herbert Serif on the Weir road.
LV Bible Study Continued.
The fecond lesson of the Bible
" course on “Great Souls at Prayer”
was conducted by Mrs. C. K. Leslie,
teacher, at the meeting of the Wo-
men's Missionary society at the
Firfjt Methodist church. Thursday
afternoon. Those taking part in the
program were Mrs. L. M. McGuyre
Mrs. Merrell, Mrs. Harold Brehm
and Mrs. Cross.
Mrs. C. O. Bennett led a discus-
sion of the entire book of Job; and
the chapter on Jeremiah was also
studied by the group of 15 mem-
■ hers who are taking the course.
A Bible study lesson on Paul in
charge of Mrs. Alfred Myers will
follow the monthly business ses-
sion scheduled for the next meet-
ing at. 8 o’clock next Thursday af-
ternoon.

HARLINGEN, Aug. 3—(Spl.) -
Miss Iris Virginia Odom of Ed-
oouch was selected to succeed Miss
Wilva Scott as the president of the
Valley Mary-Hardin Baylor asso-
ciation at the close of a tea, Wed-
nesday afternoon, at the Women's
building. The tea was held by the
Valley association, assisted by Miss
Kate A. Riley of Belton, in honor
of all girls expecting to enter the
college this fall.
The association of Mary-Hardin
| Baylor girls, members of the stu-
dent body, was formed last year in
the Valley.
Entertainment throughout the
afternoon was furnished by piano
and violin selections by Misses
Katherine and Helen Rtotler. Two
songs including “The Rosary” and
a Spanish selection were sung by
Miss Mary Lile. Miss Janie Harper
recited "The Princess Marries the
Page” by Edna St. Vincent Millet.
Following this the girls gathered
in the yard to have their pictures
taken.

Begin Tomorrow
Beginnirg Monday, “a daily
vacation Bible school will be
conducted at the * Lutheran
church from 9 to 11, a. m. for
a period of two weeks. Any child
of school age is permitted to at

For light, crisp waffles try this
recipe. Sif; your flour and meas-
ure two and ne-fourth , cuifs.
Resift with one tablespoon bak-
ing powder, one-half teaspoon
salt and one tablespoon sugar.
Beat the yolks of two eggs and
add to two cups milk or one cup
evaporated milk and one of water.
Add to the dry ingredients with
one-half eup melted butter and
blend thoroughly. Fold in the stif-
fly beaten whites of two eggs. Bake

sented, are meeting at Crawford,
Texas, for their ann,ual confer-
ence.

and Bertha Brown. They expect
to return home about the first of
next week.
