Dear Mr. Chupp,
I am writing to thank you for be-
ing so tynd to my parents, Larry and
Elaine Foster They told me how you
ins ited them in your air-conditioned
office on the day of the parade. My
husband and I had our times con-
fused and told them that the Peach
and Melon Festival parade began at
5 p.m. instead of 7 p.m. I am so thank-
ful to you because they stayed and
were able to see our kiddos in the
parade. You might have seen us. we
were in the Gorman Milling/Red Chain
Feed float. Our kids were so excited
that Memaw and Papa were able to
see them!
My father really bragged on your
paper and magazine and encouraged
me to write or phone y ou.
Once again, thanks, it's nice to
know that there are still people who
will open their door and share kind
words w ith strangers!

Lcs Brown was raised in a Mi-
mda ghetto He saw empty
when he walked the streets
iggcd paper bags containing
of liquor Dope traffic was
ivy
He w as considered retarded w hen
he was in school and was pul in a
special education class One day a
teacher told him not to pay any at-
tention to what labels other people
pul on him His life changed that
day
In high school he decided he
wanted to become a disc jockey He
read the dictionary and would ama/c
his friends with a little word act he
did "Hey. they call me Mr Vocabu-
lary Linguistically or rationally. I'm
emphatic that I possess an ad
infinitum etymology which is sim-
ply unconquerable However, I be-
lieve in the simplicity of life, so with-
out any further adieu, I wanta be like
Columbus and discover you."
He went to a radio station every
day and asked for a jab. Finally the
station manager said, "Make your-
self useful Bring me some coffee ”
Months later, on a Saturday after-
noon when Les and the dj were the
only ones in thfc station, the c|) got
drunk on the air. Lescatyed the sta-
tion manager who asked Les if he
knew howto work the controls. Les
told him he did. The manager told
Lcs to get the drunk out I
of there, take over, but
"DON'T SAY ANY-
THING!" Lcs said "Yes,
Sir'"
As soon as he was settled
into the chair he opened
the mike and told Miami
in a rapid staccato style
"Lookout This is me LP
Triple P Lcs Brown, your
platter playin' papa
There were none before _
me and there w ill be none after
me Therefore, that makes me
the one and only Young and
single and love to mingle, certi-
fied. bona fide, indubitably
qualified to bring you satisfaction
and a w hole lot of action Look-
out. baby. I'm your love man You
know it."
Les Brown served as state sena-
tor from Ohio. He now makes his
living as an after dinner speaker.
Toastmasters International voted
him the best speaker in America
The National Speakers Association
gave him its highest honor.
Occasionally he speaks to special
education classes in high schools
Once he went back to his Miami
ghetto school. The first day class he
walked in and the young people were
listening to music, fighting, playing
cards and in general tearing up the
place He turned his back on the
chaos and faced the blackboard and
began repeating the phrase. "There
is greatness in this room " The
louder he spoke the quieter the stu-
dents became He said. "Someone
in this room is great You're not sup-
posed to be here." He asked each
student "Is it you?" They usually
replied "Not me. brother" Finally a
youngster in the back of the room
stood up and said, "Here lam” Lcs
Brown said, "There is greatness in
everyone in this room."
' During the two week seminar.
Les Brown iold the students he had
been exactly where they arc. He
bonded with them, encouraged
them On the last day of class he
walked in and said, "There is great-
ness in this room Where are you?"
The entire class rose in unison and
shouted. "Here I am!"

TheTe's good news today. You
don’t have to be overwhelmed by all
the bad news in the papers or the bad
news making TV headlines or even
your own problems for Jesus can walk
with you every day of your life.
In today's study we want to look
at the word emptiness. Cars won't go
far on empty. People don't function
well when their tummies are empty
but let's look at the spiritual applica-
tion. (Hosea 10:1 KJV) “Israel is an
empty vine, he bringeth forth fruit
unto himself: according to the multi-
tude of his fruit he hath increased-tho-
altars; according to the goodness of
his land they have made goodly im-
ages."
They were worshipping man made
idols and not the true God so they
were empty. Miserable. But they
didn't have to be for they knew God's
laws and how to live an abundant and
happy life in Him.
We've looked at Israel now let’s
bring it home to America. Have you
ever seen a time when there are so
many things to do and see and yet
look how restless and empty so many
people are. Just barely hanging on
from day to day. God has much more
abundant life planned for you if you
will submit to his Word. That's where
the tfouble is, that people have
trouble submitting to the word of God.
Isn't it amazing that God tells us how
to live a happy, prosperous, and
peaceable life and yet so many people
head right the opposite way, just like
Jonah. God gave him a direct com-
mand to go to Nineveh and preach
repentance to them but he refused to
go and took a ship for Tarshish. Of
course he was swallowed by a whfcle
on the way and never made it to where
he wanted to go but after mugh heart-
ache and sorrow decided to go God's
way after all. (Mat 12:43-44 KJV)
"When the unclean spirit is gone out
of a man, he walketh through dry
places, seeking rest, and findeth
none. (44) Then he saith, I will return
into my house from whence I came
out; and when he is come, he findeth
it empty, swept and garnished."
NdTiiefh is house was empty and
so Satan came in to fill it up. Now
you don't ha veto be empty. You can
fill up by reading and studying the
Word on a daily basis and listening
to Gospel Music, going to church,
having fellowship with God and his
people. Make sure you fill up on the
right things instead of the devil's
music, the devil's trashy movies and
all the other garbage he would like to
pour into your life. Say no to this evil
stuff and fill up on the wonderful
things God is offering. God is offer-
ing eternal life and the happiest and
best life you can have right here on
planet earth but the choice is yours.
He also says in Ephe. "not to be
drunk with wine wherein is excess but
be filled with the Spirit." Think about
that command. (Col 2:10 KJV) "And
ye are complete in Him, which is the
head of all principality and power.”
(Power Principle) The conduct of
our lives is the true mirror of our doc-
trine. Montaigne
