property on Crystal Bay. "They
are so close I can differentiate
between buttons and rippers!”
Cbl. Henry (Pelly) Dittman, a
Lakewood resident and former
city councilman, reminded the
council of the law paaatd last
year that bans commercial crab-
bing. Dittman lobbied in Austin
for the law that was introduced
by Baytown Rep. Joe Allen.
I "The bay has been drug to
death," Dittman stated. He ask-
ed the council to give more
protection to the people and
their right to enjoy the bay for
recreation.
After the meeting, Dittman
told The Sun the city does not
need to post the 1500 buoys but
only needs to post signs to keep
commercial fishing out.
In his opinion the commercial
fishermen have “circumvented”
the crab trap law by posing as
bait shrimpers. “There is not
enough bait shrimp in that bay _
according to comments I’ve I
heard from the Parks and m
Wildlife Department.”
He claimed the commercial
fishermen are ca
dozen crabs a day a
catching red fish in the nets,
trout and “everything.”
"By the time they finish rap-
ing the bays, there’s not going to
be anything left,” Dittman said.
