“'This will be my last year as
far as playing baseball with the
New York' Yankees,'1' Richard-
son said on the WOR program,
"Ladies of the Press.”
Richardson's retirement has
been the subject of much specu-
lation since the start of the sea-
son. It Was expected he would
announce his plans- Sept. 17

the doming season.
Lee Roy Jordan holds the job
and. Tubbs will-be playing only
if Jordan gets hurt. He also will

That should be incentive enough

Last season, the Chairgers
were like that little girl with
the curl in her forehead —very,
very good or horrid. We scored
more than 30 points in seven
of the nine games we wdn. But
in the three games we lost, we
had a total of 13 points.-
So this season, we are look-
ing for more consistency on of-
I tense while retaining the same
scoring potential. The' key to
this combination is a more-ex-
perienced John HadI at quar-
terback and the addition of two
excellent -new pass receivers—
Willie Frazier from the Houston

In one of our intrasquad scrim-

completed 12 or 13 passes and
11 in a row. He’s taken charge
of the team just the way a vet-

is no quarterback in football
who works harder than John.
The Chargers also have better
reserve strength at quarter-
back this season. Steve Tensi
has had a year' to learn our

RECEIVING—With deluxe articles like flanker Lance Alwortk and tight
end Willie Fraxier (acquired from Houston for Ladd), Chargers wouldn't
trade cast with onyone in football. Split end Don Norron's an accomplished
pro, too, who'll be pushed to limit by rookie Gary Garrisdn. RATING—A
