dangerous illness of Brother
Huckabee’s mother.
—The friends of Mrs, Luna
Cowden will regret to learn of
her death, which occurred at the
family home in Midland last Mon-
day. She was a sister of Olen
Wright, of Mineral Wells, and
half sister to J. W. McQerry, of
this place, and was born and
raised in this county. She was
the wife of George Cowden, of
th^t^ity,

ative.
In to-day’s Star will be found John
15. Ro'bertson’S announcement, as a
candidate for repsentative of the
Ninety-Eighth representative district,
composed of the counties of falo Pinto
and Stephens, subject to the action of
the democratic primary, July 27, 1918.
Mr. Robertson is a prominent btf&i-
ness man of Mineral Wells, and is a
native Texan, having discovered
America in Limestone county in the
year 1877, and since arriving at the
age of maturity has been engaged in
farming and in mercantile porsnits.
He resided in Haskell county twenty-
seven years, where lie has considera-
ble farming interests, which ie being
looked after by his brother. Oa ac-
count of the failing health of his wife
he moved to Mineral Wells seme
four years ago, where he has been en-
gaged in business and made many
friends througout. this county, who by
persistent solicitation induced Him to
enter tharucaHor representative, be
ileving bin: to be fully competent, »
well as qualified to represent the peo-
ple of this district in the Thirty-Sixth
legislature. He is a man of pleasing
address, of fine business qualification,
practical and highly cultured, and is
fully able to take care of the inter-
ests of the people whoso behests he
will loyally carry-out. He asks a fa-
vorable -consideration of the demo-
cratic voters at the polls July 27, after
a careful investigation of his claims
and qualications.

county chairman, being absent, by
request T. P, Perkins called the meet-
ing to order, and it developing that
W. P. Smith, county chairman, was
moving from the county, thereby au-
tomatically vacating the office, J. (J.
Son, of Palo Pinto, was elected chair-
man to fill out his unexpired term.

By reason of the fact that the ap-
plication of J. R. VandegriT for plae-
iug his name on the official ballot as a
candidate for commissioner of Pre-
cinct No.'4, wat not filed within the
time prescribed by law, it was ordered
left off by a unanimous vote of the
committee, and that lie be notified by
the chairman to appear before the
cojnmittee ou the 8th day of July, it
being the second Monday of said
month, and shot# cause why, if any,
his name should be placed thereon.
A motion prevailed that the county
and precinct candidates he and they
are hereby assessed for the purpose
of paying the expenses or the pri-
mary as follows: Each candidate for
a county office, #80; each candidate
for county commissioner, 615; each
candidate for cotton weigher, justice
of the peace and constable, $7 50,
The chairman of this committee
shall notify ail candidates of the as-
sessment against them and that said
amounts assessed must be paid i.-cfore
