We take the following from an er-
ohango: Tbero is to be found at
Rockport a museum of ores and pro-
ducts of Texas. Among these is a
box containing two fino bujohes of
oranges. Ono bunch ot twelve beau-
tiful oranges was grown by that en-
terprising gentleman and eminent
lawyer Major W. S Dugat. Wo will
give their history in the Major's own
language. The tree from which
they were token was bought from
California in 1880 and was 18 inohes
high. It is of tbo celebrated man
darin variety. In lbbo it ripened
three oranges; in I89U it ripened
seventy; and in IS91 ur the iourth
year of its Texas habitat it ripened
246 splendid oranges. Major Dugat
further states that the Japanese Per-
simmon eucccded well last year.
It blooms in November and ripens in
March.
Tho other bunoh of oranges sent
by Mr. Doughty was grown by his
son in-law Mr. Don Teas. Theso
oranges are splendid specimens; in-
deed for quality and size they cannot
bo excelled in any country. Wc re-
gret that the variety is not Btatcd.
Mr. C. P. Eidson sends Prof. Attwa-
tor a bottle of Mustang wino of tho
vintage of 1831.
These products sent by tbo above
named enterprising and pro.
gressive gentlemen to the
Rockport museum are now
carefully labelled and arranged in tbo
exhibit of the coast oounties of South-
west Texas and reflect great credit on
the producers."
If the Rockport lands produos
oranges tho land alone is worth $500
por aore and if it is near tho city of
Rockport it should bo worth what su-
burban lands arc always worth as com-
pared to those distant from commercial
centers. Theso lands are cheap and
Texas shonld encourage tho oulturo of
this golden fruit. If land is good
for oranges and also near a city which
has every reasonable prospeot for bo-
coming a Grit class seaport the far-
seeing man will profit by tho experi-
ence of Peter MoLelland J. W. Mann
Dr. McGregcr and other wealthy men
Look to any oity in this or any
other country and tho wealthy men
are those who owned land in it beforo
its suburban lands began to enhance
in valuo. Roekport for oranges and
gold.
Hon. R. M. Wynn ot Fort Worth

Rev. J. K. Street has gone to Port-
land Texas on business.
Mr. H. L. Dunn of Fort Worth
was in tbo oily yesterday.
G. Pessots of Austin is in tbo city
and is stopping at tho Paoifio.
Mr. A Raiford if Galveston was
a guest at the Royal yesterday.
Col. 0. C. Cautrel cf Nashville
Tonnessco was among yesterday's
arrivals in tho city.

man County Land company has re-

What I Know About Hardware and
Runaway Book-Keepers.
To bo swindled out of your goods
by oustomers whom you consider trust-
worthy is bad but all who sell on
credit must expoot to suffer such
losses To bo robbed by burglars or
highwaymen is worse; still you have
a right and a chance to defend your-
self and if you succeed to send a
bullet through a robber's brains you
havo rendered a valuablo seivice to
society. Worst of all is to bo robbed
by a trusted employee a confidential
clerk in whom joujplaco too mum
confidence. It is impossible to carry
on any business without trusting in
tho honor of employees and exposing
yourself to robbery. I havo been
robbea in this way by
my former book-keeper Chorles
Werner. Any information disclosing
his present location will be properly
rewarded as I ah all spare no pains
nor expense to make him faeo a
Waco jury. Since New Year trade
with mo has been vcy brisk. My
men have worked their fullest capaci-
ty. I have come to the conclusion
that the peoplo appreciate tho faot of
having in their midst one of tbo lar-
gest best equipped and best managed
hardware stores in the state where
they always can find what thoy want
and seeuro the lowost prices either
in small or wholesale lots.
