Ni:w York Jan. 21. According
to dispatches from London tho an-
nouncement that a delegate from the
English born residents ot Chicago is
o personally reprccent an invitation
to the I'rinoc of Wales to visit the
World's Fair has created a most
favorable impression and is com-
mented upon by the press aB indicat-
'"K the faot that the tio of sympathy
"at binds Englishmen now "residing
'broad in another country is just as
"'ong as ever. At tho samo time tho
"echration is repeated on scmi-offio-'
authority that the Prince will bo
?le to do nothing more than return
? 'egrets to his fellow countrymen
jotiiicago and to intimate his inabil
ity to cross the Atlantic at this time.
In. fact reasons of state would prevent
his acceptance no matter how much
ho might be personally denrous of
visitinc the fair In iev of the ad-
vanced aire of his roval mother and trie
faoUhat Bho is liable to br prostrated
by illnehs at any moment it would re-
quire the consent of the cabinet as
well as of tho privy council for the
heir apparent to the throne to make so
long journey It is not probable that
this permission would be granted
even were it asked for and as a mat-
ter of fact outside ot an occasional
run to the continent from which he
can return in a fov hours if need bo
the Prince is compelled to remain a
resident of his own shores It is
thought however that the Chioago
delegates will havo better fortune with
tho invitation he convoys to Mr. Glad-
stone and tho Marquis of Salisbury.
