On to Buckholt is the slogan.
Imsiness for tho past month in
Waco has been good and (he d'niatd
for Waco realty is increasing day by
day.
Our oily ''o'u'ls" should if they can
collect the pavomeat tax at oLce and
ihus ba ouab'el to continue ptv'ng
Jtreets.
Tho mud-throwiug Herald givos
peoplo abroad a poor opinion of the
ioneo of decency possessed by
Uoustonites.
Tho Day-Ulobo of yesterday was a
splendid presentation of tho resources
sf the oily; a credit alike to its mana-
ger and to Waco
The Express classes Blaine as a
Maine man when he was horn in
Pennsylvania. Blaine was not a yan
5teo or a New hJnglonder by birth.
Persons who own properfy on unim-
proved btreots will not pay if thoy

Jund to pay bonds used to improve
p.-opertg t'i longing to other people
sso long as those people refuse to pay
iheir part of the pavement tax.
Push tho wagon yard onterprisa and
perfect sn orcanizat'on anioug the re-
iil traders of Waco Jt will pay all

Hay thofr gooHs cheaper and the
rolumo of the (ride of tho city will

Some tnon regard Dob Ingeisoll as
tbo discoverer of Agnosticism which
jj. only another name for skepticism
Jut tho truth is that Anoosilaus bo-
.07U tho Christian era formulated the
itfie& of agnosticism "nihil cognosei
nihil pcrccpi nihil sciri pisse." In-
orsoll meroly gave it a now suit of
3ophistry and deelanntion. Agnos-
tioism is a lay figuro that is draped in
2 now costume every generation in
truer to make fresh eouverts
Tiik Ni:ws is sorry Sonator Mills
voted against Hatch bill but is
still more sorry that his speech
ag'.inst it was sophistioal rather than
solid. His illustrations about the
government buying corn etc. ere it
was planted and about men purchas-
ing proporty under the impression it
would advance in ptice wcro sophis-
tical and illusory The purchaser of
lind for speculative purpose0 gets
tho laud in exchange for his nunev
and tho government purchases articles
to ho delivered in Jiiturn and both
dilFr essensial from gambling tran
actions in futures against which the
Hatch bill was directed. In these
gambling transactions in futures in
grain cotton and pork no actual
delivery is coctoinpUied or desired by
the parties they could no in fact
nuko the payment they are settled
by the forfeitute of margins that are
put up or by the loser paying the
dill'oreuee between tho price at which
it w4S sold aud bought and the price
at which the article is soiling on the
day designated for dolivcry. A. buys
1000 bales of cotton for March at a
specified price a-.d puts up a margin
but ho has not the money to pay for
tho cotton and if it falls he loses
and if it advanocs he makes a profit.
The News is of opinion that Mt.
M. 1 1 s made a mistake in voting as ho
did. but it foels quite certain ho oast
his vote in accordauoo with his honest
ootivictioos as he is not a man to
think one way and to vote another on
any question Tho Hatch bill whs
not a political quostion and was
meant to anuff out a great and grow
ing evil.
The road to Buckholt will run
through the finest land in tho Btate
and a territory thickly populated and
by roason of its connections at each
end it will he a paying road at the
start. Take stock in it and Uiub help
take from paper and put in solid
oarth this new feeder for Waco.
The inultitudo of laws already in-
troduced in the legislature inspires tho
hope that moit tf them may be
strangled in tho various committees.
Too much legislation is an incalculable
evil in every state in tho union as it
serves to keep the law shifting like a
vane on a churoh steeple and this sort
of thing breeds litigation and fosters a
spirit of litigiousness in tho people.
Ono is often tempted to wish that the
sama customs oblaintd in tho United
States that prevailed ainoug the
ancient Loorians viz: When a man in-
troduced a new law he did so with a
halter tied around his neck and if the
law proposed by him was rojeoted ho
was immediately led out and hung till
he was dead on the ground that he
was disturbing the public peace by
favoring a dangerous innovation.
But tho current sets so stiongly in
favor of cxeesaivo legitiation as fo
render it almost imposfiblo to airest
it. The committees should strangle
every unnecessary law whether it bo a
now one or an amondtnent of the stat-
ute. The laws which are needed are
few.
Tho Dav-Globo does not rcud
John Martin of Kansas as a "true
blue" democrat because ho was in
favor of a fusion of democrats and
third partyites and leaned towards the
third part . hut it supported George
Clark who fused and coalesced with
the republicans and who llirted with
the third party and angled for its vote.
His speech at Denton was really a
thitd paity palaver. As the Day-
Globe (both papers beforo they were
consolidated) cupportud Clark against
the tioiuinoo of the democratic p.uty of
Tex -is and defended the fusion and
eoali'ion between CUrk and tho
Cuueyites it is laughablo now to heir
it pau:.iDg judgment oq the ilrtxo-
orncy oi jonn aiartin oi ivmsas or
any one else. It should remove tho
"beam out of ita . own eye" ere it
attempts to oxtraot tho moto out of the
eye of any democrat.
Tho republican mediocrities whom
Blaine oveihhadowed by his abilities
and his eloquence will now Lreatho
freely mid strut as though they were
really great men. Dull men always
ihsliLe thoso who are dashing and
btilliant.
Braun cannot hely braying 'tis the
manner in which tho ass expresses

A Judtro on Labor Organization
A number of Lako Erie and
Western (strikers at Muncio Ind
were before Judge Baker of the
United States district court charged
with contempt in haing interfered
with the movement of trains alter the
court had enjoined them from such
aatiou.
1 ho court adjourned for u week In
announcing this adjournment Judge
Biker addressed the prisoners for their
guidance in tho meantime Ho said:
"In this oasu the evidence shows that
there urea number of men who belong
to a secot labor organization whose
tatuiiieatioiis roHch lint only ovor the
entire extent of the United State? but
into Canada as well. Jt has kindred
atsrciationi by other names in Europe.
"All theso organizations have the
same geaeral aim and that is by
force ioleiicc and terrorism to com
pel their employers to submit their
business their propeity their means
of ltvelinood to the arbitrary demands
of theso associations.
"In their secret oathbound assomb-
lies they determine lor themselves on
what terms they will woik lor others.
They refuso those who are not mem
bers of their association the opportu-
nity to labor when they disiao to do
so. Those who will not submit to
their exactions have no more option
about carrying on their business than
has tin. belated traveler when the
high way nnn presents a revolver and
bids htm submit. If tbey compel
submission it is robbciy. Theso com-
binations infinitely worse than isolated
violations of tho law in that they
teaoh geucr.il disregard and contempt
of law.
The Latest Thing In Calendars.
In striking contrast to tho numer-
ous fanciful calendars whioh flood the
mails at this season of the year is tho
one that is ismied by N. W. Ayer &
Son the Kooping Everlastingly At It
Newspaper Advertising Agents of
Philadelphia and which has been lor
ears a vcty great favorite.
It is largo enough to be easily read
across a room and hindsome enough
to hang on die wall a year without
becoming an oyesore
This issue has a new heading which
is both artistically designed and beau-
tifully printed.
It is so packed as to leach its desti-
nation in perfect condition and it is

oeipt of twenty-five cents.

Good Looks.
Good looks are more than skin
deep depending upon a healthy con-
dition of all the vital organs. If tho
liver bo inactive you havo a bilious
look if your stomach be disoidered
you have a dispoptic look and if your
kidneys bo aflected you havo a
pinched luok Secure good health
and you will havo goods looks.

Rlgglns to the Peoplo of Waco.
Three years ago today we moved
into the storo we now occupy. Wo
told tho people of Waco
Trading Co. with a handfull of
second hand goods what was left from
tho furniture we could not sell at
auction of the Pacifio hotel nnd what
we could not get oven an offer on.
Wc asked Messrs. Mann & llotun for
a six months' lease. Theso gentlemen
as we see now wisely insisted upon
us ler.sing for ono year. Wo with
hesitation did so. Then before the
year was out we asked and obtained
a five years' .lease. Then double
tho storo room was needed and obtain-
ed! The fact hioked us in tho fuce
that Waco was the best supplied town
in Texas with furniture having about
nine placs where furniture was sold.
The prioes was the lowest and tho
profit the least so traveling men said.
Now three things presented them-
selves: I Let the pecple know where you
are and what you have.
"J. Buy tho goods so cheap as to
always moot competition and undersell
if possible.
'.i. "Trade in everything." Give
tho people a chance to get something
for what thoy had and did not want
and upon such terms as they could
afford
With these three propositions we
turned our throttle loose with an up-
hill grade.
Today wo announce tho same old
dootrine. Today wo add: We can
furnish your 'home from kitchen to
parlor. Furniture carpets stoves
cash or installments fine or cheap
now or second hand.
