LITTLE HEROINE
Invention of a machine which will make separate graphs of the various
sounds' of the heart has been announced by Dr. George K.„ Fenn, staff
physician at St. Luke’s hospital, Chicago. The invention, on which the
doctor has worked for more than a year, couples two devices already well
known to physicians. They are the radio-stethoscope and Jhe electric cardio-
graph. Both devices were considered distinct advances in medical apparatus,
but the combination of the two removes the human element which at times
caused wide differences of opinion in cases. The machine, yet unnamed, is
capable of listening to and recording various heart sounds without inter-
ference from such causes as the patient’s breathing.

not the fault of little Sophie Isenberg.
.When the bandits invaded her father’s

police, who were quickly forthcoming,
but not quick enough to get their men.
The robbers got away with 5180.

More Apples Needed
The average per capita apple con-
sumption for the entire United States
is now one-lialf an apple per day. So
far we have only reached the half-
way mark of the proverbial “apple a
day.” We understand, says the Pro-
gressive Grocer, the doctors are not
taking a very active part in persuad-
ing us to eat the other half per day.
To really enjoy spuds from Idaho they must be cooked Idaho style, so
Senator William E. Borah of Idaho (right) and Fred T. Dubois, the first
senator from the stater called on Nicholas Sabatini, chef of the Mayflower
hotel, in Washington, to teach him the fine points of cooking this delicacy
from the “Potato state.” The potatoes were shipped from Idaho especially
for the Idaho Territorial day banquet in Washington.'
