HIE COURTS.
Kono and McCay Sentenced to The
Years renal Sen Untie.
In the federal court yesterday
afternoon Judge ltectoi overruled
the motion for a new trial in the
Kono aud McCay case. This morn
ing tho prisoners were brought into
court for sentence. Each of them
made a speech in which he stated
that while ho had done the things
of which he had been found guilty
he had done them with the object
only of tiding over tho affairs of the
bank until such time as ;ho financial
depression should end and that he
had been in no way bentiitted by
his acts.
Judge Rector sontenced each of
them to fivo years penal servitude in
each case the sentences to bo con-
current so that each sentenco is
really but live years.

The taking of testimony in the
Houston case was completed this
morning aud the arguments are
inw beiug made. About 100 wit-
nesses wore examined nearly forty
being from Arkansas where Houston
used to live. Those came to prove
that Houston was iu Arkansas at a
time that rouJered it impossible for
him to have been at the sceno of tho
murder whonit was committed.
